🌿 Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary. 🌿

The Nativity of the Theotokos is a feast of hope. Through Mary, we see the dawn of our salvation and the one who would freely offer herself to God, becoming the Mother of our Savior.

As we begin the Byzantine liturgical year, we look to the Theotokos as our guide, asking her to lead us ever closer to her Son, Jesus Christ.

This weekend, we will join the The Sisters of St. Basil the Great on Mount Saint Macrina in Uniontown, PA, for the 92nd Annual Pilgrimage in Honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, under this year’s beautiful theme: “Theotokos: Beacon of Hope.” 🙏🏻
If you are unable to join us in person, we invite you, our eparchial family, to share your prayer intentions in the comments or by sending us a message.
It will be our honor to carry your intentions with us in prayer as we gather before the Theotokos, who leads us always to her Son and remains a beacon of hope for all who turn to her.
Throughout the weekend, we will share highlights of the pilgrimage here, so that together, whether on Mt. Macrina or from wherever you are, we may be united in faith, prayer, and devotion.
Theotokos, Beacon of Hope, pray for us!
Our Lady of Perpetual Help, pray for us! 🙏🏻

At the request of the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department, we are honored to share information about this important free event taking place in our local community.

25 YEARS LATER, WE REMEMBER.

Twenty-five years later, our community will gather to remember September 11, 2001 — to honor the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, remember all those whose lives were lost, and reflect on the courage, service, and sacrifice shown in the days and years that followed.

Today, September 1, the Byzantine Catholic Church begins a new liturgical year.

The Byzantine liturgical year is beautifully guided by the life of the Theotokos, the Mother of God. We celebrate her Nativity on September 8 and her Dormition on August 15. In this way, the liturgical year begins just before her birth and ends just after her Dormition.

The Theotokos is revealed to us as a guide. In many icons, she is shown pointing toward her Son, Our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ. Her whole life directs us toward Him.

As we enter this new liturgical year, may we entrust ourselves to the guidance and intercession of the Theotokos. May she lead us through the feasts and fasts, through times of joy and times of trial, and always draw us closer to her Son.

Sharing a few pictures from last week’s blessing of fruits and vegetables! This beautiful Byzantine tradition is observed for the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, giving thanks to God for the fruits of the earth and reminding us that all of creation is renewed and transfigured in Christ.

"O Theotokos, in giving birth you preserved your virginity; and in your falling asleep, you did not forsake the world. You are the Mother of Life and have been transferred to life, and through your prayers, you deliver our souls from death"
Tradition relates that the Mother of God died in Jerusalem, after a visit with all of Christ’s apostles. They carried her coffin to the Garden of Gethsemane where it was placed into a tomb. The apostle Thomas came late, and asked that the tomb might be
opened so that he could reverence her body. When opened, the tomb was found empty except for the winding sheet.

One of our Patronage parishioners had the opportunity to visit Christ the Bridegroom Monastery in Ohio this morning for Matins, followed by a stop at the nearby Shrine of Our Lady of Mariapoch.

The sisters were wonderfully welcoming, and the service was prayerful and beautifully celebrated. We are so grateful to have religious sisters in our Byzantine Catholic Church offering their lives in prayer for us and for the whole world.

Both the monastery and shrine are well worth a visit if you're in Ohio! One interesting part of the Shrine is that they have the stations of the cross but with Byzantine icons.

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

Today, Patronage Church joyfully welcomed our new pastor, Rev. Mykhaylo (Mike) Kravchuk.

Following Fr. Mykhaylo’s first Divine Liturgy with our parish, he blessed the vehicles of our parishioners in observance of the Feast of the Holy Prophet Elijah. We then gathered together for a welcome social in the church hall.

We are grateful to have Fr. Mykhaylo and his family with us and look forward to beginning this new chapter together. May God grant them many blessed years!
