St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Aransas Pass Texas

Catholic Church St. Mary Star of the Sea Church was established as a parish of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in 1948 and was dedicated on March 25, 1953. Mary's.

The Reverend Charles Ordner became the first pastor of St. Prior to becoming a parish of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, St. Mary's was a mission church attached to Sacred Heart Parish in Rockport. As the congregation grew, it was evident that the small wooden church would not be adequate. In 1950, during the pastorate of Fr. Damian Hayes, and after several years of fundraising, the new church and rectory became a reality. In 1955, Fr. Hayes was transferred from St. Mary's and Fr. Gregory Boensch became his replacement. Two mission churches fell under the care of St. Mary's, Our Lady of Assumption at Ingleside and St. Joseph's at Port Aransas. An associate pastor, Fr. Patrick Doherty, was named to assist with these mission churches. In 1970, Our Lady of Assumption at Ingleside reached maturity and became a parish with Fr. Charles Doherty designated as the pastor. Joseph at Port Aransas was attached to the Ingleside mission. In May 1974, Father James Hamilton was appointed the new pastor of St. He was interested in introducing the religious educational reforms of Vatican II, so he set up programs of study on Sacred Scripture as well as high school studies on religion. He also established the Cursillo movement for the parishioners and worked on the Spanish charismatic prayer group in the parish. He was also interested in leadership and organizational experimental programs. The introducation of such a program bore fruit in 1978 with the construction of the Church Center, combining a hall, rooms to be used for educational purposes, a commercial kitchen and restroom facilities.

2003 marked the 50th anniversary of St. Mary's dedication. The jubilee celebrated the rapid growth of the parish, both physically and spiritually. The parish now has more than 400 registered catholic families and is continuing to grow. Spiritual nourishment grows throughout the congregation through sacraments and participation in the many church related organizations.

🌸 The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary 🌸
September 8

Today, the Church joyfully celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary! 💙

The Church has celebrated Mary’s birth since at least the sixth century. Although Scripture does not give us an account of Mary’s birth, Christian tradition tells us that her parents, Saints Joachim and Anne, longed for a child and prayed faithfully to God. Their prayers were answered with the birth of Mary, who would have a unique role in God’s plan of salvation.

Mary’s birth points us toward the coming of Christ. As Saint Augustine beautifully reflected, Mary is like a flower from which blossomed Christ, the “lily of the valley.” 🌿

Mary’s birth reminds us that every new life brings hope. In Mary, we see this hope in a special way: she is the dawn that prepares the way for Jesus, the fullness of God’s love and salvation.

✨ May the joy of Mary’s birth remind us to welcome new hope, peace, and God’s love into our hearts and our families.

🔥 ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST 🔥
The voice that refused to stay silent.

Have you ever asked God for a sign? 👀
Maybe you’ve prayed, “Holy Spirit, show me what You want me to do.”

Sometimes we expect God to answer with something BIG and unmistakable.

But St. John the Baptist reminds us that the Holy Spirit can speak through something much quieter:

❤️ A conviction in your heart.
🙏 A call to change.
🕊️ A person God places in your path.
💬 The courage to speak the truth with love.
✨ A desire to lead someone closer to Jesus.

John knew his mission.

People came to him. They listened to him. They followed him.

But John never made himself the center.

Instead, when he saw Jesus, he pointed away from himself and toward Christ:

“Behold, the Lamb of God.”

That is what makes John such a powerful example for us.

He didn't need fame.
He didn't need applause.
He didn't need everyone to like him.

He simply wanted people to find Jesus.

And when following God became difficult, John remained faithful.

🕊️ WHAT ABOUT US?

We may never have the same mission John had, but we are all called to be witnesses of Christ.

You don't have to be perfect.
You don't have to know everything about the faith.
You don't have to have all the answers.

Sometimes witnessing to Jesus looks like:

✨ Choosing kindness when everyone else is being cruel.
✨ Standing up for what is right.
✨ Encouraging someone who feels alone.
✨ Saying you're sorry.
✨ Forgiving someone.
✨ Having the courage to say, “I believe in Jesus.”
✨ Simply living your faith when nobody is watching.

❤️ TODAY, ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT:

“Lord, where are You asking me to speak up?”

“Who are You asking me to encourage?”

“What are You asking me to let go of?”

“Who can I help find their way closer to You?”

Maybe the sign you've been asking God for isn't something dramatic.

Maybe the Holy Spirit has been gently nudging your heart all along.

Are you listening? 🕊️

St. John the Baptist teaches us that our lives aren't meant to point people toward ourselves.

They are meant to point people toward Jesus.

✨ SAINT OF THE DAY: SAINT BARTHOLOMEW ✨

What if Jesus already sees the real you—even before you think anyone notices?

That’s part of the beautiful story of Saint Bartholomew, also known as Nathanael. When Nathanael first encountered Jesus, Christ saw something in him that mattered: a sincere heart, without duplicity.

Nathanael went from questioning to believing. And then he became one of the Apostles who witnessed the risen Jesus.

His story reminds us that you don't have to be the loudest person, the most popular, or the one everyone notices to have a purpose. Jesus sees you. Jesus calls you. And Jesus can send you to do something greater than you imagined.

💭 For our youth:
Be real.
Be honest.
Have the courage to ask questions.
And when Jesus calls you, don't be afraid to take the next step.

You may not know exactly where your path is going—but God does.

🌸 The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary! 🌸

Today we celebrate our Heavenly Mother, Mary, who was taken body and soul into the glory of Heaven. 💙✨

Mary reminds us that a life given to God is never wasted. Her humble “yes” became a path of hope, courage, and grace for all of us.

May our Blessed Mother guide our families, protect our children and youth, and lead each of us closer to her Son, Jesus. 🙏

✨ A little late, but a saint worth celebrating any day! ✨

This past Friday, July 31, we celebrated the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus.

Though we’re a few days late sharing his story, we couldn’t let the opportunity pass—St. Ignatius’ life of conversion, perseverance, prayer, and devotion to God is worth remembering beyond a single day.

His motto reminds us of his mission:

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam — For the Greater Glory of God. ❤️

May St. Ignatius inspire us to recognize God working in our own lives and to courageously follow where He leads.
