A huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped with the first of what we hope will be many cleanup days at Prairie Grove-Greenie Cemetery today.

Because of your hard work, the front fence line is looking a million times better, and an entire fenced plot has been cleared. The progress made in just a few hours was incredible!

One of the best parts of the day was having the opportunity to visit with so many of you, hear stories, learn more about the cemetery’s history, and discover family connections that make this place so special.

We still have plenty of work ahead of us, but today showed what can be accomplished when a community comes together. Thank you for your time, effort, equipment, donations, and support! We look forward to many more cleanup days and continued progress in preserving this beautiful piece of our community’s history.

I did not take many pictures before, but happened to find one of the fenced plot. I made a before and after of that one, they are labeled.

Lots of brush and briars piled up. We will get those removed, if you are visiting, I know they are not a pretty sight, but the trailer was full the first trip. We will get the last 3 soon!

Looking to do clean up Saturday May 30th.

9am to noon.

If you have chain saws or tree loppers/trimmers feel free to meet us there!

If you can only offer 30 minutes or an hour, that is ok too!

Goal currently is the front fence, clean up any bushes/trees along the front fence and will proceed to move inward.

This will be a long process and the weather is getting HOT quickly, so it will be done in small phases.

I will have a cooler of water and snack crackers.

This should be 90% ground level work.

For the purpose of records keeping and management. We have installed new signage to provide contact information for burials as well as anyone needing to contact the association. 1 sign has been installed on the fence at each entrance.

If you visit the cemetery, please make note of 2 locations that have markers posted.

These locations are being damaged by vehicles driving over them. Until we find a more permanent solution for keeping these safe, please keep your eyes open and aware of current markers.

Went out today, mowed 1/4-1/3 of the grounds. Lots more to go. So if you go out and see only a portion mowed, we will get there.

Looking for: -please contact Heather Myers Huish for the following offers

*someone to w**d eat (will accept multiples)
*trash service that would pick up monthly or as needed?
* landscape company to assist with mowing and w**deating regularly

If you are at the cemetery, please use the trash receptacles for trash only.
All limbs, briars, leaves can be tossed in the outlying areas that have piles made. We will work on cleaning up dead limbs, trees and leaves but right now our focus is on current needs which will be grass mowing, trashing old flowers that are blown around and w**deating.

There are markers placed (Thank you to the Perry family) to alert drivers of plots being damaged by vehicles.
Please be alert while traveling in vehicles.

🌿 Let Me Introduce Myself 🌿

My name is Heather (Myers) Huish, and I am proud to say I have been blessed to call Aquilla home my entire life. My husband, Jason, and I are raising our two girls here, surrounded by the same friends, family, values, and community that shaped me growing up.

Many of you may already know me through volunteer events and community activities over the years, and I truly appreciate the friendships and support this town has always shown my family.

Recently, I was honored to be approached by Ms. Linda Murdock, who has faithfully cared for Prairie Grove/Greenie Cemetery for nearly 25 years, as she prepares to pass the torch for new management. Stepping into this role is something deeply meaningful to me, and I know it would make many of my past relatives proud to see the younger generation continuing to care for such an important part of our community’s history.

I have many hopes and plans for the future of the cemetery, including cleanup days, improved communication for visitors and families, and continuing to preserve the beauty and respect this special place deserves.

As I begin learning this new role, I kindly ask for patience, grace, and support from the community. If you have ideas, suggestions, or concerns, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly before frustrations make their way to social media. Open communication and working together will help us continue moving forward in a positive way.

Thank you all for your support, grace and encouragement as I begin this new chapter. ❤️
