Since I don't think I could put in any better.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much respect I have for those who resisted, fought, and died for our Gods and Goddesses, and our religion. These individuals could just as easily have said that...

Today marks the end of the Lithasblot. We didn't do a blot for it this year as we have been doing some reorganization lately and this one slipped through the cracks for us. Our next blot will be on the 21st of Sept. We will be holding our blot for fallfeast that day.

Lithasblot:
The harvest festival; giving thanks to Urda (Ertha) for her bounty. Often alms are given to the unfortunate at this time, or loaves in the shape of the fylfot (the Sun-wheel, which fell into regrettable disrepute during the dark times of the second World War when the symbol was perverted as a symbol of chaos and darkeness). Interestingly, Lithasblot 1941 was allegedly the time when the magical lodges of England performed rituals to keep the N**i forces from invading their country; which may have worked, since Hi**er eventually abandoned plans to invade Great Britain. Lithasblot has long been associated with ceremonial magic and magical workings.

Today's post isn't really Asatru related but people related. This is something that shouldn't have happened regardless of belief. I'll be getting back on our normal topic soon.

Today is a sad day for some of us as tragedy has struck the community we live in. With some of our members having attachments to the fire services this becomes harder.

Yesterday one of our community fire fighters was shot and killed while responding to a medical call. That fire fighter was a 14 year veteran of the fire department. A police officer and a civilian were also shot in this incident. Their conditions haven't been reported yet. The investigation is ongoing at this time. But some early reports indicate that the shooter was arrested at the scene but the police have yet to confirm this.

At this time we ask all of you to raise your horn in honor of the many first responders who answer the call. They leave behind families and loved ones to protect their community. That alone makes them worthy of our respect. But when one of them passes because of something like this it is a tragedy. So please honor them.

To my knowledge no donations or gofundme type of arrangements are in place for those who would like to go that route to show their support and that's not what I'm asking for. Just keep them in your hearts and in your minds because they never know when their next call could be their last.

Today, February 9th, is a sad, but proud day on our Asatru calendar. It is the day we honor one of our martyrs, Eyvind Kinnrifi, who was tortured and killed for no other reason than his love and loyalty to the old Scandinavian and Germanic Gods and Goddesses, and refused to be baptized, and convert to Christianity.

On this day we honor Eyvind Kinnrifi, who was captured, tied to a table, and tortured to death in a most horrible way. A brazier filled with red - hot coals was placed on his stomach until his body, it is said, literally burst open. This act of sadistic torture was perpetrated by that evil Christian King Olaf, who deemed all Pagans as fair game for torture and death if they would not convert.

There is no greater act of love and loyalty than to give the ultimate sacrifice for something that you have total faith in. Eyvind gave his all for the Gods and Goddesses, his ancestors and his folk. That is the "Tru" person that Eyvind Kinnrifi was, and that is why we honor him, and all those who laughed in the face of death to honor their faith and their folk. These martyred men and women showed a level of bravery that many could not attain a thousand years ago. Most simply gave in and switched religions, which is why they have been long forgotten, but some, like Eyvind will be remembered forever in our hearts, and in our prayers to the old Gods.

Cattle die and kinsmen die,
thyself eke soon will die;
but fair fame will fade never,
I ween for him who wins it!

- Havamal

"For your bravery, loyalty, and love of our ancient Gods and Goddesses, we honor you here this day, as you honored all of us a millenium ago. For your ultimate sacrifice we will remember you, and honor you always. May you forever sit on the hallowed benches in the great halls of Valhalla!

Hail to our martyrs!

All Hail Eyvind Kinnrifi!

With Disting or Disablot fast approaching let's talk it. Here the basics. Many who celebrate it do so around the 31st of January to about the end of the first week in February

DISTING / CHARMING of the PLOW
First New Moon in February
Also called 'Charming of the Plough' after the Anglo-Saxon spell and ceremony. Recorded as a regular feast only in Sweden, this blessing takes place in early or mid-February. The name means 'Thing (assembly) of the Goddesses'. In Sweden, it was the first public moot/fair of the year; in Denmark, this is the time when the first furrows were ploughed in the field (an activity much hedged about with folk custom). This is a feast of new beginnings, at which the work of the year to come is blessed.

If you have anything to add please do so.

Winters Dance

The world quiets around us,
The sun hides from us.
The ground doesn't grow,
The birds do not sing.
Huddled close around a fire,
Its warmth keeping us safe.
Unknowingly we are bound,
Need for comfort.
While at first we were quiet,
Our laughter soon does sing.
The tales of the once was,
And romances begin.
Within this space here,
Many do gather.
Talking and laughing,
Moving throughout the circle.
This is the winters dance,
One seen every year.
And yet no dance,
Is ever been the same.
Join me now my brethren,
There is still room to spare.
Lots of wonders for the little ones,
And secrets to be shared
