As a new school year begins, we give thanks for teachers, educators, school staff, and all who help our schools care for and support students. Thank you for the many ways you teach, encourage, guide, feed, transport, protect, listen, and care. Your work matters!

And today we pray for all of our children beginning a new school year, for excitement in the new, courage in the uncertain, friendships that bring joy, teachers who see them for who they are, and classrooms where every child knows they belong.

May this be a year of learning, growing, kindness, curiosity, and grace.

God, bless our students and all who surround them with care. Amen.

Many of you may remember James Hohmann, who grew up right here at Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church!

James is now an editorial writer and columnist with The Washington Post, and this Thursday, August 27, from 12:00–1:00 p.m., he’ll be speaking at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs for “Making Sense of the 2026 Midterms.”

What a great opportunity to support someone who grew up in our Spirit of Life community—and to hear his perspective on this year’s elections and the political landscape.

You can attend in person at the Humphrey School or join via Zoom. Registration is required.

Thank you all for helping build birthday cake kits that were donated to the Rosemount Food Shelf.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Kids Camp at Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church in Apple Valley this summer, and helped put together 29 birthday cake kits for our Rosemount Food Shelf!

Our Food Shelf Coordinator Sara Felix visited camp in August to speak about 360 Communities’ work and explain how the food shelf helps families who are facing food insecurity. Many thanks to Christina Kolb, Children's Ministry Director, for organizing this special project! 🎂

Go Fish Practice Reminder

This week's Go Fish Practice is simple: Learn three new things about someone you do not know well.

Take a few minutes, invite someone over coffee, start with a text, make a phone call to ask questions and listen to someone's story. You might be surprised by what you discover.

Relationships grow through curiosity, conversation, and genuine interest in one another. Every friendship starts with a simple invitation to learn more. As we make room for one another's stories, we become a stronger and more connected community of faith.
