Faith In Christ - A Command!

Sinners are never invited to come to Christ. They are commanded to come to Christ. Faith in Christ is not something we are invited to do. It is a command! It is not an act of presumption for me to believe, if God has commanded me to. It is also a great mercy to us for Christ to say, “He that believeth not shall be damned.” God commands me to believe on His Son. I am informed that I will be damned if I do not. I see clearly that I cannot be saved by my worth, works, or will. Faith in Christ is not a response to an invitation, nor is it a choice we make. It is obedience to the command of God because we really have no other alternative. ~Todd Nibert

For this God (the one in previous verses) is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

Someone said, “If I knew I were one of God’s elect, I would come to Christ; but I fear I am not.” To you I answer - Nobody ever came to Christ because he knew himself to be of the elect. It is quite true that God has of His good pleasure elected some to everlasting life, but they never knew it until they believed on Christ. Christ nowhere commands the elect to come to Him. He commands all men everywhere to repent and believe the Gospel. The question for you is not, “Am I one of the elect?” but “Am I a sinner?” Am I in need of Christ to wash away my sins? Am I in need of His righteousness to clothe my nakedness? Is He my one and only hope for salvation?” Christ came to save sinners.

YESTERDAY, TODAY, FOREVER
HYMN
1 O how sweet the glorious message
Simple faith may claim:
Yesterday, today, forever
Jesus is the same.
Still He loves to save the sinful,
Heal the sick and lame,
Cheer the mourner, still the tempest,
Glory to His name.

Refrain

Yesterday, today, forever,
Jesus is the same.
All may change, but Jesus never!
Glory to His name! Glory to His name!
Glory to His name!
All may change, but Jesus never!
Glory to His name!

2 He who was the friend of sinners
Seeks the lost one now;
Sinner come, and at His footstool
Penitently bow.
He who said I’ll not condemn thee,
Go and sin no more,
Speaks to thee that word of pardon
As in days of yore.

Refrain

3 Oft on earth He healed the sufferer
By His mighty hand;
Still our sicknesses and sorrows
Go at His command;
He who gave His healing virtue
To a woman’s touch,
To the faith that claims His fullness
Still will give as much.

Refrain

4 He who pardoned erring Peter
Never needst thou fear;
He who came to faithless Thomas
All thy doubt will clear;
He who let the loved disciple
On His bosom rest,
Bids thee still, with love as tender,
Lean upon His breast.

Refrain

5 He who ‘mid the raging billows
Walked upon the sea
Still can hush our wildest tempest,
As on Galilee;
He who wept and prayed in anguish
In Gethsemane
Drinks with us each cup of trembling,
In our agony.

Refrain

6 As of old He walked to Emmaus,
With them to abide,
So through all life’s way He walketh
Ever near our side;
Soon again we shall behold Him,
Hasten Lord the day;
But twill still be this same Jesus
As He went away.
Refrain

1 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
Psalm 48:1-3

What is The Mind of Christ?

By nature, our hearts toward God are as cold, hard and lifeless as stone. In the new birth God says He will give us a new heart. Ez. 36:26. So what is the characteristic of this new heart compared to the old heart? David tells us in Ps. 51. The new heart is “Broken and Contrite”. If something is broken, it doesn’t work. It’s not reliable. In the new birth we come to see that our thoughts and affections (mind and heart) are broken. They cannot be trusted. He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool. Prov. 28:26. We are made to see that the mind of Christ revealed in the Word of God is our only reliable source for faith and practice. Which brings us to the “Contrite” part of the new heart. It is a willing and compliant heart. The mind and heart are now teachable to the things of God. Not only are they teachable but they are made to prefer God’s way to man’s way. Only the new heart will say gladly; not my will, but Thy will be done. That is the mind of Christ.

1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
I Corinthians 12:1-4

We believe that the work of regeneration, conversion, sanctification and faith, is not an act of man’s free will and power, but of the mighty, efficacious and irresistible grace of God.

22 I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.

23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.

24 My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.
Psalm 71-21-24
