📖 BIBLICAL TRUTH: JUST BECAUSE IT'S RECORDED IN SCRIPTURE DOESN'T MEAN IT'S GOD'S DESIGN.
The recent viral story involving Pastor Israel Ford of LifeWorks Church in Ohio, who publicly introduced a second wife to his congregation, has sparked widespread conversation about marriage, polygamy, and biblical interpretation.
At A Word in Season Ministries, we believe moments like these call for more than controversy, criticism, or sensational headlines. They call for sound biblical teaching and spiritual discernment.
Yes, Scripture records individuals who practiced polygamy, including Abraham, Jacob, David, and Solomon. The Old Testament even contains laws addressing such arrangements.
However, we must understand an essential principle of biblical interpretation:
What Scripture describes is not always what Scripture prescribes.
In Genesis 2:24, God establishes the foundational pattern of marriage: a man and a woman united in one flesh.
In Matthew 19:4–6, Jesus points back to that original design when teaching about marriage.
And in 1 Timothy 3:2, Paul establishes standards concerning the marital integrity and character of those entrusted with spiritual leadership.
These passages deserve careful consideration alongside the historical accounts of polygamy.
Our concern is not to condemn individuals or presume to know their hearts. Rather, it is to emphasize the responsibility we all share to interpret God's Word faithfully.
Personal convictions must be examined through Scripture. Scripture must never be reshaped merely to accommodate personal convictions.
As followers of Christ, we must remember:
✅ Not every biblical example is a biblical instruction.
✅ Spiritual authority does not place anyone above biblical accountability.
✅ Claims of divine revelation must be tested against the written Word of God.
✅ Sound doctrine requires studying Scripture in its proper historical, literary, and theological context.
The Church must remain a place where truth is taught, questions are welcomed, and believers are encouraged to grow in spiritual maturity.
Our responsibility is not to follow every popular teaching or controversial interpretation.
Our responsibility is to follow Christ and remain faithful to His Word.
At A Word in Season Ministries, we remain committed to teaching biblical truth with conviction, demonstrating Christlike love, and helping people grow in their understanding of God's Word.
Because truth and love are not competing values. We are called to walk in both.
