Feast of St. Mary
On August 15, Christians give thanks for the life and witness of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Many of us no longer have our earthly mother. If you’ve lost your mom, know that her spirit is near you. Mary is also your mother, and you can feel her presence. Jesus is our comforter, but sometimes you need your mother.

On August 6, many Christians honor the Feast of the Transfiguration, the moment when Jesus was revealed in radiant glory before Peter, James, and John—a glimpse of the resurrection to come. Today is one of the Church's principal feast days and reminds us that Christ's light continues to transform our lives today. May you feel His light on you.

An outdoor country church service was followed by a fish fry for members of St. James Episcopal Church of Antlers on Sunday, along with friends and relatives. The service and lunch were at the home of Trish and James Gardner outside Moyers. Mark Gardner, pastor, conducted the service under a shady pavilion cooled by a steady breeze.
After the service, catfish was deep-fried along with yellow squash, okra, hush puppies and French fries. Cole slaw and desserts were offered, along with two batches of home-made ice cream, chocolate chip and cheesecake.
A jam session was led by guitarist James Gardner, who with his wife Trish performs in southeast Oklahoma.
The outdoor services is an annual summer event for St. James’ church which honors its namesake, St. James the Apostle. A fish fry is appropriate for St. James who, according to the New Testament, was a fisherman with his brother John and father Zebedee when Jesus called the brothers to follow him.
St. James has its regular service at 10 a.m. Sunday at 600 High Street in Antlers.
