St. Laurence Catholic Church in Elgin, IL, was looking for a pipe organ. Fr. Andrew heard of one available in a church that was closing in Oregon, IL, and asked Fabry Inc. to look at the possibility of moving it to St. Laurence. We were more than happy to do so.
Because the organ's old home needed to be emptied quickly, Fabry Inc. pulled the organ from the church and put it into storage before our annual Christmas tuning. As soon as the new year began, we pulled the chests from storage and began checking each pipe valve to make sure it worked. Those that needed replacement were replaced. The wood flute needed to have their chests modified so they could sit on the floor.
Dave Sr. prepared the space for the new organ at the church by cutting the carpet back and laying the floor frame marking where the organ would go. Once the chests were gone through at the shop, the organ was set up to make sure it would sit in the footprint that had been made at the church. The church also decided to purchase two new ranks, one for the Swell and one for the Great. We built new chests and fit used pipework into them. The organ could now be moved into its place at the church. The reservoirs were modified so the wind pressure could be adjusted and new wind lines were installed. The organ's blower was put in a sound proof box in the hallway so its noise would not disrupt services and allow the organ to be heard.
Once in it's new home, measurements could be made for the new casework that would surround the organ. David constructed the casework, staining it to match the console and samples from the church. The speaking pipes from the original facade made up the new facade and they fit harmoniously into the church's balcony. The console was rebuilt and utilizes the Peterson ICS-4000.
