National Donut Day 2026 was a tremendous success across Connecticut & Rhode Island! Salvation Army officers, staff, and volunteers spent the day delivering donuts and words of appreciation to veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, community partners, and community members throughout the state.

Every stop was an opportunity to share the story of the Donut Lassies and continue a tradition that began more than 100 years ago on the front lines of World War I.

Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate, serve, and spread a little joy along the way. We loved seeing the smiles, hearing the stories, and honoring those who serve our communities every day.

Another successful Donut Day is in the books, thanks to the generosity of our community partners. A heartfelt thank you to Lyman Orchards for donating 700 fresh donuts, helping us celebrate this cherished Salvation Army tradition in a meaningful way. Salvation Army officers from across Connecticut picked up their donuts this morning and will be sharing them with veterans at VA hospitals throughout the state.

As we celebrate, we also honor the legacy of The Salvation Army's Donut Lassies. During World War I, these courageous women served alongside soldiers near the front lines, providing comfort, encouragement, and of course, fresh donuts. What began as a simple gesture of care more than a century ago has grown into the National Donut Day tradition we continue today.

Today is about more than donuts. It's about remembering those who served, honoring those who continue to serve, and sharing a moment of kindness with our veterans. We're proud to carry on that tradition and grateful to everyone helping make it possible.

🍩 What a sweet National Donut Day at The Salvation Army Ansonia Greater Valley! 🍩

Today was filled with smiles, fellowship, and one very important discussion: What is the best donut? 🍩🤔 (We’re still not sure there’s a wrong answer!)

We were also blessed to share the joy by distributing 12 dozen donuts to community partners, friends, and neighbors throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today special and to those who continue to support our mission of serving our community with compassion and care.

We are so grateful for the generosity of our community! ❤️

However, we kindly ask that you do not leave bags, boxes or furniture around our building, as they create an additional burden for our staff and volunteers to remove and dispose of.

The only donations we are able to accept at this location are clothing and shoes that fit inside the white donation bin located in our parking lot. If the items do not fit in the bin, please do not leave them on the property.

Thank you for helping us keep our property clean and safe for everyone!
