Three Saints Orthodox Church

Three Saints Orthodox Church In 1890, a small group of people from Ansonia, mostly from Austria-Hungary and Galicia, formed a group in order to observe their religious teaching.

Three Saints beginnings could be traced to the end of the last century with immigrants fleeing the Slavic nations (Northern Europe to Southern and Central Europe) to escape religious, cultural, and political persecution that was overbearing in their countries and to better their economic status. The Brotherhood of St Vasily the Great was instrumental in securing the services of a pastor from neigh

boring cities, mainly Bridgeport and New York. Services were held sporadically on Sundays and Holidays in various rented quarters. On January 1, 1895, the organization formally petitioned Bishop Nicholas of the Aleutian Islands and Alaska to accept the group as a congregation. From its humble beginnings as a congregation in 1895, the Society struggled to maintain the Church. The society was not content to exist in rented quarters and in 1899 purchased a parcel of land on Howard Ave and Crescent St and erected a new church edifice. The Church was built mainly by the men of the parish who labored on the church property after their day's work was completed in the local factories. In 1900, Archimandrite Raphael blessed the cornerstone. The Church, formally dedicated in October 1900 by Reverend Ptolemey Timchenkoff, remained under the guidance of the St Vasily Brotherhood until 1903. In 1903 the Brotherhood deeded the Church properties for the sum of one dollar to the Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Three Saints Congregation. This was the beginning of the Three Saints Orthodox Church. On October 4, 1904, the parish incorporated itself under the laws of the state of Connecticut. On January 25, 1954, tragedy struck. A flash fire completely gutted the interior of our House of Worship. This fire intensified the parishoners' desires to see completion of the long planned building program. February 1954 saw the largest body of parishoners attending a parish meeting in the Ansonia High School Auditorium to approve plans to construct a new edifice. Ground blessing ceremonies with His Grace, Archbishop Dimitry of Boston officiating took place on July 25, 1954; on November 20, 1955, the first Divine Liturgy was held in our new Church. The Church edifice today is itself testimony to the glory of God, with its marvelous and inspiring iconography by Pimen Sofronov. That same edifice, built to replace the former Church destroyed by fire, is the proof of Christ's words: "With God all things are possible."

Well, seasonal allergies are kicking in which can only mean one thing: P***y Willows will be in bloom soon. If you have any in bloom, please bring as many branches as you can to the church during the week, preferably by March 29th. Please call the church office first as the building is always locked. Our youth are encouraged to attend Liturgy on Lazarus Saturday, April 4 then join us downstairs for our annual “Lazarus Saturday Luncheon Gathering” to help put the palms and p***y willows together. Palm Sunday is on April 5th.

Be sure to go to Forgiveness Vespers on Sunday. Lent is no good if we don’t forgive each other and ask to be forgiven.

Dear friends and parishioners of Three Saints,
In light of the approaching snowstorm, I want to remind everyone that because my family and I can make it to church safely, we will still serve Divine Liturgy tomorrow as usual. That being said, please only come to Church if it is absolutely safe for you to do so.
If you cannot make it to church, please be sure to participate in Liturgy at St. Tikhon's Monastery by following the link below. Please view this in the same way in which you would present yourself in church, i.e. prayerfully attentive as if you were standing in church. Please dont "watch" Liturgy from the comfort of your recliner while eating breakfast.
Please keep me in your prayers as I am still headed to surgery Monday morning. I am grateful for your love and support.
In Christ,
Fr. Patrick

The blessing of the rivers for the great feast of Theophan. We met at O’Sullivan‘s Island to bless the convergence of the Naugatuck and the Housatonic rivers. What a great day!

Dear faithful and friends of Three Saints,
Glory be to Jesus Christ!
Recently I asked your prayers for a local orthodox boy who suffered third degree burns over 35% of his body, back, & torso. He is in stable condition and the prognosis is relatively good, but is having several skin grafts, which are painful and exhausting as his is completely sedated during the procedure.
As you might imagine this is taking a great toll on his family in a multitude of ways, especially financially in that it is expected that he will be in the hospital, with his parents at his side, for at least two months.
With this in mind, we will be taking a second collection tomorrow at the conclusion of Divine Liturgy to help this family. I realize many of you have given generously during the recent holiday season and I am conscious to not overdo or ask too much but I think all of us can see the great need here. If you are able to help I thank you very kindly in advance.
If you would like to write a check, please make it to Three Saints. If you prefer to make a donation via electronically or via app, please feel free to let me know.
I thank you for your kindness for this family and in witnessing the love of Christ.
Fr. Patrick
