At 8:46am 9/11/2001
I was principal at Fairmount Alternative School in Newnan, GA, when a call came the husband of one of my teachers, who was a retired Delta Airline pilot that one of the Twin Towers/ Trade Center in NYC was hit by a plane. I turned on a TV and watched. At 9:08 am the second building was hit and I said, "My God we are under attack".
All in the building (especially the students that the system deemed "hardcore") were then vulnerable, scared and crying. That day God’s protocol took priority and separation between church and state went out the window. We answered calls to calm alarmed parents. And, I called all faculty, staff and students out of their rooms to meet me at the flagpole.
Rev. Black, Min. Annette Glanton, Lisa Pike, Rosetta Martin and I linked hands and joined in a prayer vigil. All hands touched. All gangs, all races, all religions, believers and non-believers...touched.
We can be the nation God wants us to be by,
"Crowning our Good with Brotherhood, from Sea to Shining Sea".
GOD, Bless America.

Each Sunday, Smith Metropolitan dedicates w/n the morning service a "Moment in Black History".
As a prelude to tomorrow’s presentation, by our own Sis. Blackwell,
today, Mark and Tracey Reid, my next door neighbors and faithful contributors to our Outreach Clothing Drive sent me these pics of their visit to the Obama Presidential Center.
I can’t wait until their return, as they share all the details of this awesome trip.
I think they look at home at that Presidential desk, don’t you?

What a Glorious Afternoon yesteray. The Missionary Society of Smith Metropolitan AME Zion Church held their first Rainbow Tea. The Fellowship Hall was decorated to the Max. The sharing of meaning and purpose of the Dept. Colors of the Woman's Home and Overseas Missionary Society (WHOMS) really set the tone for a delightful afternoon of spirituality and fun.
We were blessed to have the mother of Smith Metropolitan, Sis. Victoria Williams and the mother of Mission Church of God by Faith, Mother Moore to grace the Parent Body- Purple and Gold Table and members of St Paul CME and The 7th day Adventists sitting at the Youth and Life Members' table.
The Games: Past the Teacup, What's in your Purse and Sugar Mint Word Games went over well. And, all were in competition for the prizes. Men from Smith and St. Paul CME, Jacksonville joined the ladies as well. Young and Old brought life to this event and engaged in this most enjoyable afternoon.
