Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of MD We are members of a faith tradition shared by many of America's founding fathers, and we advocate for our principles and values.

The Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of Maryland (UULM-MD) is a statewide advocacy network that is comprised of individual UUs. It works to educate, mobilize and coordinate the advocacy of UUs on specific issues before the Maryland General Assembly. Partnered with like-minded coalitions, UULM-MD provides a voice for UU principles and traditions in the discussions of state and federal human rights issues.

With Heavy Hearts: Remembering Phil Ateto

We share with deep sadness the passing of our beloved community member, Phil Ateto, who transitioned on July 26, surrounded by family, friends, and beloved community.

Phil was a passionate, creative, and fearless advocate for justice whose activism touched many across Anne Arundel County. He stood boldly with those whose voices were often unheard, always bringing humor, courage, and deep compassion to his work.

On the day of Phil’s passing, members of our community, including many of our youth, gathered to hold one another in our shared grief. Through cards, collages, shared memories, tears, and love, we began the difficult work of processing this loss and honoring a life that touched so many. We are grateful for the tenderness and care our community offered one another in that sacred time.

We hold Phil’s loved ones, friends, fellow activists, and all who are grieving in our hearts. May we honor his memory by continuing to love boldly, stand courageously for justice, and care tenderly for one another.

With love and in shared sorrow,
UUCA

"As a primary care physician, I have provided gender-affirming treatment.
I have seen first hand how gender-affirming care can be lifesaving.

But, more fundamentally, for me and my fellow Unitarian Universalists, I am called by my faith to affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every human being,
that INCLUDES trans youth."
