Navy Crew 2021 Fall Season Recap (Excerpt on ):

Navy Lightweights Win the Princeton Chase

"Following the strong sweep of all Men's Lightweight events at the 118th IRA Men's National Championship Regatta in June 2021, the Naval Academy Lightweights brought a renewed focus and wellspring of enthusiasm to their training this fall. Bolstered by a return of all championship squad athletes from the 2021 season, the N150's had their sights set high on not only a powerful Fall season, but laying the foundation for Spring 2022.

Amongst the historic flooding on the Schuylkill river in October, the Lightweights kicked off the 2021-22 campaign at the scaled-down Navy Day Regatta, laying down a 2nd place overall result in the 1st Varsity 8+, 3 Top-10 finishes among Heavyweight and Lightweight crews, and besting hometown favorites UPenn. The following week at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, two Navy Light crews had a disappointing set of races in the Club 8+ and Lightweight 8+ events, finishing 9th and 6th respectively. While this did automatically qualify these entries for the fall 2022 Head of the Charles Regatta, the team redoubled their efforts over two weeks of preparation for the Princeton Chase in early November.

In an outstanding set of races in Princeton, the Navy Lights won the Princeton Chase for the first time since 2007. Overall, the team placed all 5 Varsity 8+ entries in the Top 20, and 2 Varsity 4+'s in the Top 10 of Heavyweight and Lightweight crews. In the final weekend of racing in November with 8 2/C MIDN completing the NSW Screener, the team concluded the Fall 2021 season with a clean sweep at UVA, including the top finishing Plebe/Freshman 8+'s against EARC conference foes in the Georgetown Heavyweight and Lightweight squads. The team now turns their focus to the hard work indoors, and calm winter Severn water to get ready for an ever-challenging 2022 sprint racing season."

For anyone that missed the summer Navy Crew newsletter, here are the updates from Hubbard Hall:

"Navy Lightweights Win IRA National Championship
Coming out of the pandemic, the Navy Lightweights were ready to compete and take the league by storm. You couldn't have a much better year: sweeping the IRA National Championship lightweight events, winning the Dean's Award for having the highest GPA of any varsity sport on the Yard, and placing more lightweight athletes on the inaugural IRCA All-American Team than any other school. Along with all the medals, the Navy Lightweights brought home a boat-load of national honors to include Coach of the Year, Staff of the Year, Lightweight Crew of the Year, and 18 scholar athletes."
