Do you like to be invited to special events or to be a member of an honored group? In this week's Old Testament reading from Proverbs, Wisdom invites us to “come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed." But Jesus reminds us that for many people, the everyday concerns of life can seem more important than even the invitation of God himself. And some people actually hate God's people, as John notes in his first letter. Read these Scriptures for yourself, then come to Christ's banquet of word and Sacrament in the Sunday service to learn more!

Proverbs 9:1–10;
1 John 3:13-18;
Luke 14:15–24

Our hymn of the day is LSB 510: "A Multitude Comes from the East and the West."

For Holy Trinity Sunday we will see how the Trinity is depicted in the Bible right from the very beginning, we'll hear Peter explain how Jesus came from the Father and sent the Holy Spirit after his ascension, and we'll rejoice once again in Christ's promise to be with us always. Take a look at the Scriptures for yourself, then join us to receive the gifts of our Lord and Savior!

Matthew 28:16–20

Sunday we observe Pentecost--often described as the birthday of the Church. God first bestowed his Spirit on people in the Old Testament, notably on 70 elders at once during Moses' leadership. After Jesus' ascension it happened in a big way on the Jewish feast of Pentecost, as recorded in the book of Acts. In John's gospel we hear how Jesus foretold the Spirit's coming upon his followers. Read these Scriptures on your own, then join us as we honor the Spirit who is with us always now.

Numbers 11:24–30
Acts 2:1–21
John 7:37–39

Our hymn of the day is LSB 497: Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord.

We won't be having our Thursday Bible study this week, as the space will need to be made ready for the blood drive.

Today the Church commemorates Jesus' ascension into heaven, and Sunday's service will focus on this important day. We'll hear both of Luke's accounts of the event, from Acts and his gospel, as well as Paul's remarks to the Ephesian believers on how God "raised [Jesus] from the dead and seated him far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come." Check out the readings ahead of time and then join us Sunday to receive God's gifts together!

Acts 1:1–11
Ephesians 1:15–23
Luke 24:44–53

Our hymn of the day is LSB 491, "Up Through Endless Ranks of Angels."
