Those who lose their life for my sake will find it (Matthew 16:25). Jesus issues a difficult invitation to His disciples “Take up your cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). To follow Jesus is to love our neighbors with a self-sacrificing love, to sit in the discomfort of another’s struggle, and to be willing to lay down our own power and privilege to see the world from our neighbor’s point of view. Following Jesus requires practicing courage as we show up for one another in the least glamorous moments of life. We need to trust that God’s love always gets the last word and we will indeed be brought to new life through God’s resurrection power.

Who do you say that I am? (Matthew 16:15 In Christ, God was revealed in flesh and blood, allowing us to know who God is and what God’s priorities are for creation. God reveals the divine nature and priorities through Jesus’ earthly life. Christ incarnate shows us that God has a serious concern for all people - He feeds thousands of people… He befriends outcasts… He calls out the greed and misplaced priorities of the wealthy. As the church is formed into the body of Christ, we too now reveal to the world who God is.

Woman, great is your faith! (Matthew 15:28). Jesus did not stay within the boundaries of His time, much to the frustration of authorities. He broke through not geographic boundaries but religious, ethnic, and social boundaries as well. Jesus demonstrates that God’s love cannot be held back by boundaries created by humans. God’s grace and restoration are available to all, with no exceptions. As present-day disciples, we are called to follow Christ in breaking boundaries, challenging biases, and welcoming all to God’s love!

Wondering what Mt Hermon's Surprise Party VBS 2026 was all about?

08/09/2026

Do not be afraid (Matthew 14:27). There are times when it’s relatively easy to trust in God - until we face something unexpected, frightening, or out of our control. Then doubts immediately overwhelm us. The good news is that Jesus hears our cries and saves us. He is with us in our weakest moments, holding us even as our spirits sink. Jesus is always with you, bringing peace amid the storms and faith amid your doubts.

What a great week of surprises! From hot dogs, tacos and sushi.... all the way to God's abundant grace! Thanks to all ...
