Native American Missions - Parkwood

Native American Missions - Parkwood Native American Missions - NAM Parkwood Baptist Church in Annandale,VA is a mission minded church.

Over the years our members have been lead by the Lord to help many with physical as well as spiritual needs. This mission started in 2009 as a result of a mission trip to New Mexico by Greg Porter who reported on the poverty in the area, as well as the spiritual and emotional needs of the Native Americans. It all began with a school supply drive, which was intended to provide a few much needed su

pplies for the area's children. That drive was so successful, that by the time the drive was completed, over a ton of school supplies had been shipped. Over the past two years Parkwood Baptist Church, its people and a very generous sponsor (who pays for shipping) have continued to ship school supplies, children's books and toys and over 2000 pounds of clothing to the area. In addition NAM has supported scholarships for pastoral education and summer camps; donated playground equipment, worked on the reservations and given over 750 bibles. Our founder and members have also volunteered at summer camp; given encouragement to ministers; supported a food ministry; supplemented the meager income of one of the areas Native American missionaries; and given gifts to various churches. But, the needs of Native Americans continue to be great and NAM has grown and become more formalized and organized.( It became an official mission of Parkwood Baptist Church in 2011.) We are developing strong relationships with the people and churches. As a result, this exciting ministry is growing and becoming an effective partner for the Native American Leaders in the New Mexico area.

In the words of a Cheyenne proverb, “A nation is not conquered until the hearts of its women are on the ground. Then it is done, no matter how brave its warriors or how strong its weapons.”

I wrote to this group, and asked if we could work together...today's answer -"Your arguments are built on valid points. In the light of this we'd like to explore this opportunity further and see if we could join forces in bringing some light and joy to the Native American populations you serve". Ummm....that's a yes! I will gather some more info, but will be looking for the Youth Leaders to let me know if they are interested in being a part of this and getting the balls out to families who have no electricity. This is an exciting way to build morale, get kids to exercise, and bring a little light into homes at night! Anyone want to be a soccer coach?
