The Annandale Stake Relief Society organized a successful service project to deliver needed food to area food banks in Fairfax County, VA, on Monday, August 24th.

The delivery came through a donation of 24 food pallets from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints church welfare division headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. The “Unpack the Truck” project benefited seven food pantries and non-profit organizations in Fairfax County, including:

❤️Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA)
❤️Ecumenical Community Helping Others (ECHO)
❤️Fairfax Area Christian Emergency Transition Services (FACETS)
❤️Burke United Methodist Church
❤️Sydenstricker United Methodist Church
❤️Culmore United Methodist Church
❤️Salvation Army Fairfax Branch

This is the third year in a row that the Annandale Stake worked with Church headquarters on a surplus food truck for the area. This year, approximately 34,231 pounds of food were
delivered to the Sydenstricker church parking lot.

Despite concern that getting volunteers would be difficult given the delivery coincided with the first day of the new school year, the stake had nearly 70 volunteers show up to help with the unloading and delivery of the food.

The Rolling Valley, Springfield, and Burke wards are hosting an interfaith food drive with our neighboring congregations to help fill the shelves at ECHO.

On the evening of July 1, 2026, 12 faith organizations in the Burke-Springfield, VA area gathered together as part of the faith250 program to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence from England, and to build upon an effort build respect in the community for religious freedom and community engagement.

It was a wonderful opportunity to not only celebrate the American dream of religious freedom and free speech, but to also build community connections and friendships that can better our communities.

As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, join us in celebrating the ideals that unite us – freedom, community, and service. Bring your friends and family to Nationals Park on July 24th, for an evening of baseball, connection, and purpose. JustServe will be hosting charities from across the DMV in the spirit of service that strengthens our communities.

Game time is 6:45 PM, but come early for the first pitch and other activities. The park opens at 5:00 PM, and our nonprofit partners will be at tables located in the park through the fourth inning.

Tickets are available on all four levels of the park. The tickets for the Section 200, Club Seats, are loaded with a $26 credit for food or souvenir items in the park. Tickets in other sections do not include the credit. Tickets are limited, so purchase yours today!

Annandale Stake Relief Society President Sister Danita Grundvig and Just Serve Coordinator Kelly Serote delivered 6 dozen hygiene kits and several boxes of undergarments to the Lamb Center on Friday, June 5. The clothing and items in the kits were donated and assembled by the sisters of the Annandale and Mt. Vernon stake at the Women's Conference on Saturday, May 29. Thank you to everyone who participated in this effort to serve our community members in need.

The Washington, DC Temple Choir are performing TONIGHT at the Temple Visitors’ Center tonight at 7:00. The performance is free and all are welcome to attend.

And mark your calendar to hear the choir perform on Sunday June 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Annandale Stake Center (3900 Howard St., Annandale VA 22003). This patriotic concert is also free and open to the public.
