Mashod A. is a native of Hillside, New Jersey. After graduating from Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey he matriculated to Rutgers University in New Brunswic

k, New Jersey as a James D. Carr Scholar, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He also holds a Master of Divinity from Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. During his undergraduate and graduate career, Mashod was extremely active in extracurricular activities and held leadership roles in numerous student organizations. A life-long and fifth generation member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Mashod answered a call to the ministry at the age of eighteen. He began his ministerial career at St. James AME Church in Newark, New Jersey as a youth minister, and has served on the ministerial staff of Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and Charles Street AME Church in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2005, he was assigned to pastor union Chapel AME Church in Newark, New Jersey, where under his administration, the congregation was blessed to undergo a renovation of their worship facility and experience tremendous growth. In November of 2008, the Rt. James L. Davis, appointed Rev. Evans as the senior pastor of Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Birmingham, Alabama, where he led the congregation in a capital campaign. In June of 2017, Rev. White appointed Rev. Evans as the senior pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan. With a passion for community organizing and engagement, Mashod has served on community boards and non-profit organizations including, the Multi-Cultural Aids Coalition of Boston, Demock Community Health Center in Boston, New Jersey Human Development Corporation, Greater Birmingham Ministries, Alabama Faith In Action, and he has served as chairman of the Union Chapel Community Development Corporation of Newark, New Jersey. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity. He is married to Leslie Michelle Evans, a licensed professional counselor, and they are the proud parents of two sons, Mashod Evans, Jr. and Mason Evans.

July 13-17 6:00pm-8:00pm

Bethel AME Church invites you to join us for food, fellowship, and fun Bible learning for ALL AGES!!
The theme this year will be Back to Basics with B.I.B.L.E: Blessing Inspiring Believers to Live Eternally. We will be going on a five-day journey of investigating the Bible and getting back to the Bible basics. On this adventure, students will be given a glimpse into Jesus' identity as the One possessing divine wisdom, strength, eternal presence, and peace.

6/30 UPDATE: The Towner Human Services Building will be open as a daytime and evening cooling center Tuesday, June 30th and Wednesday, July 1st. The site will be open from 8:30am - midnight.

Due to the heat emergency this week, three county buildings have been designated as cooling sites beginning today through 5pm on Thursday, July 2nd. Locations include:

- Towner Human Services Building, 555 Towner St, Ypsilanti

- Learning Resource Center, 4135 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor

- Administration Building, 200 N Main St, Ann Arbor

The Delonis Center will also activate “weather amnesty” due to dangerously high temperatures. During times of extreme heat when the heat index is 90 degrees or above, the Delonis Center will open extra space to be used as a cooling center during the day and into evening hours. For further information, call the Delonis Center at (734) 662-2829.

Additional cooling sites are located throughout the county. A complete list of the sites with addresses, contact information, and hours can be found at bit.ly/Wash-Cooling

In addition to the sites listed, all Washtenaw County office building lobbies are available Monday through Friday during normal business hours as cooling sites. Sites are not open on holidays unless otherwise specified.
