(Note that Faith in this context means Conviction or Trust. Also, God in this context refers to an Intelligent Creator, and does not necessarily point to any religious belief.) To quote famous Physicist & Nobel laureate Dr. Max Planck (1932):
"Anybody who has been seriously engaged in scientific work of any kind realizes that over the entrance to the gates of the temple of science are written the
words: Ye must have Faith. It is a quality which the scientist cannot dispense with." Further, the intelligibility of the universe cannot be explained by evolution alone -- evolution does not require that the universe be intelligible. Insects, birds, and animals are oblivious to, and could not begin to comprehend, the Laws of Physics. Why is the universe (ultimately) intelligible? To quote Dr. Albert Einstein: "The most incomprehensible thing about the Universe is that it is comprehensible." Just as Religion rests on the Faith that God exists, Physics rests on the Faith that the Universe is Intelligible. It ultimately seems to come down to Faith.
