A Necklace of Youthful Utpala: A Praise of White Tara

These verses in praise of White Tara distill the essence of the Karma Kamtsang tradition of White Tara practice into seventeen inspiring stanzas. For this reason, the Gyalwang Karmapa has said that reading and reciting them will benefit anyone who has faith in or practices White Tara. Members and friends of AAKTC may be interested in this event to be held tomorrow evening at 8pm to commemorate the passing of Tenzin Bob Thurman, the world- renowned American Buddhist scholar, practitioner, and educator.

Jewel Heart joins the worldwide Buddhist community in mourning the passing of Robert A. F. Thurman on June 16, 2026. A longtime close friend and supporter of Gelek Rimpoche and Jewel Heart, Bob shared a deep commitment to, and played a unique and critical role in, preserving and spreading the wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism in the West.

We celebrate his remarkable life and remember his scholarship, compassion, love, energy, enthusiasm and creativity in his immeasurable contributions to the Dharma and to many of us personally.

Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, students, and all those whose lives he touched. We will miss him tremendously. And we will miss the many teachings he gave us at Jewel Heart. His loss is a loss to Tibetan Buddhism and all of humanity.

At the request of KTD, His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa will bestow the reading transmission (lung) and instructions for his newly composed White Tara Longevity sadhana—a truly precious and rare occasion.

His Holiness graciously accepted this request with the intention of making a closer connection with the members and friends of KTD, KTCs, and KKSGs.

Happy Saga Dawa Düchen!

“Commit no wrongdoing, completely tame your mind, perfect your morality: this is the teaching of the Buddhas.”

We gathered today on this most sacred holiday that commemorates the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana (death) to pray, to make offerings, to bathe and welcome the infant Siddhartha, and to dedicate the sum of all our good deeds to the enlightenment and liberation of all beings. We also enjoyed a potluck lunch generously offered by friends and members of the center.

Thank you to all our members who joined in person and online this morning, and to Khenpo Tshering Chophel of Karuna Buddhist Center and Master Zhong Hai of Triple Crane Retreat Center in Chelsea who joined us and led the ceremony today.
