For the past few weeks, Peace's very own Beth Ragle has been working hard to collect new socks and t-shirts for students attending Hard Court Hitters' summer reading program!

Hard Court Hitters is a non-profit initiative based in Detroit. Their summer program is open to students ages 4-14. It is sponsored by Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church -Detroit (LCMS) and run by retired school teacher Clare Carlisle.

Clare serves God by meeting the educational, emotional and spiritual needs of children, teens and adults alike in inner-city Detroit. As most of the kids' mothers are single parents working 2 jobs with little energy leftover for their children, Clare is able to use her gifts to support these families by acting an honorary/second mother for these children.

There are approximately 60 children attending the program this year. At the last session of the summer, Clare would like to present each child with a gift. The new shirts and socks from Peace will be included in those gifts! Thanks to the generosity of Peace's members, we have 79 shirts/180 pairs of socks for the boys, and 51 shirts/207 pairs of socks for the girls.

Now that Pastor Jim has been here at Peace for a few weeks, we want to take a moment to highlight his family.

It can be easy to forget that it's not just the Pastor who relocates when he takes a new call. His wife and children move with him as well. That means a new house, new schools, new friends, new weather (Michigan and Missouri don't quite have the same weather!), and many more changes. It means packing and unpacking lots of boxes. It means painting and redecorating.

Through it all, we've seen his wife and children smiling. We've seen them meet many of our members. We've seen them hug each other.

We are so blessed to have not only an incredible pastor, but his incredible family as well!

The Youth Group recently went on their 2026 summer trip!

Held at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island, the LCMS Michigan District hosted their High School Youth Gathering with the theme of "MIGHTY WATERS" (based on John 4:14). Over 800 teenagers attended mass events at the resort, with the ability to attend smaller talks during dedicated times. Service projects were available on both the island and the nearby (mainland) towns.

Additionally, the youth group was able to participate in a carriage tour of the island, a sunset tour of the Mackinaw Bridge, ride bicycles around the island, and bring home the island's most famous product: fudge!

On this gorgeous afternoon, Peace was blessed to celebrate the installation of its third permanent shepherd, Pastor Jim Bartok.

The service featured an incredible sermon, wonderful music from seven of our resident musicians (plus a trumpet!), and communion, before being concluded with a lovely luncheon. This joyous occasion brought 150 attendees through our doors!

We are thrilled to welcome Pastor Jim and his family to Peace!

This Sunday was our last day with Pastor Kurt leading our congregation. We celebrated his time among us with a unifed worship service, luncheon, and a kazoo tribute!

As we look ahead to the installation of Pastor Jim next week, we are so thankful for everything that Pastor Kurt has done in the last 18 months to shepherd us and help us prepare for our new Pastor. We will deeply miss Pastor Kurt.

We had a wonderful time tonight with Bob Dutko! What a fantastic experience to listen to Bob share evidence supporting Genesis and the Creation account. We hope that all who attended feel more confident in their faith and to share their faith with others!
