With graduation season upon us, we are now celebrating our amazing sixth cohort of seekers from the Ma’rifa: Seekers & Scholars program. Our seekers have been a part of Ma’rifa’s S&S 1:1 college advisory program for the past year as high school seniors working hard on their applications. This post series will highlight their achievements and acceptances.

Our first spotlight of the series is Arash Khanzadeh who will be attending Northern Virginia Community College in the Fall and majoring in Engineering. 🎉🥳

Seekers & Scholars is a program that guides Shi’i high school students through the college application process, prepares them for the transition from high school to college, and introduces Islamic perspectives on higher education. Combining faith-based foundations and personal insights with tested strategies, we provide students with resources, workshops, and advisors to enhance their applications and to help them succeed in their academic endeavors.

“As I look back on my university years, I realize how much they shaped me both personally and spiritually. One of the biggest lessons I learned is that no matter how difficult life becomes, you have to keep moving forward. There were many moments of stress, uncertainty, and self-doubt, but each challenge helped me grow stronger and become the person I am today.

Throughout university, making tawakkul to Allah kept me grounded. I learned that while I cannot control every outcome, I can control my effort, intentions, and mindset. Choosing this path was part of Allah’s plan for me, and over time I found comfort in trusting that He was guiding me exactly where I needed to be.

There were times when things did not go as I hoped, but I found peace in knowing that if I gave my best and trusted Allah, then whatever happened was part of His plan.

‎{فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا}
“With hardship comes ease.” (Qur’an 94:6)

This verse became a constant reminder during difficult times. Every hardship carried a lesson, and every challenge eventually brought growth and understanding that I could not see in the moment.

Ma’rifa also played a meaningful role in my university experience. It introduced me to new opportunities, perspectives, and people who encouraged me to stay rooted in my faith while navigating the challenges of school and life. It reminded me that growth is not only academic and professional, but spiritual as well.

As I enter this next chapter, I hope to carry forward the values of perseverance, trust, and sincerity. If there is one thing I would want someone reading this to remember, it is this give your full effort and leave the rest to Allah. Through patience, trust, and determination, Allah can open doors and create outcomes greater than what we imagined for ourselves.”

Interested in applying to law school this fall?

Ma’rifa Seekers & Scholars Law is launching its 2026–27 Law School Mentorship Program to support applicants through the law school application cycle.

Mentees will receive many hours of one-on-one mentorship from Shia law students and graduates of top law schools, including Harvard, Georgetown, and UChicago. Support will include personal statement guidance, application package review, workshops, and open office hours.

We’re also looking for law students and legal professionals interested in mentoring the next cohort of applicants.

Ma’rifa’s Seekers and Scholars High School Team is excited to introduce the newly formed ambassador program. Launched at our conference this year, this program allows for Shi’i college students and recent graduates to be ambassadors for their respective institutions. The ambassador program connects Shi’i college students and recent alumni with prospective students interested in their school.

If any of our seekers are interested in your institution, we will match you, and you can then connect with that individual.
