"The Wrong Person Doing the Right Thing"
Luke 7: 36-48

Jesus often related to the wrong type of people and enabled others to see how they often knew how to do the right thing. Rather than a religion to be practiced, Jesus shows us a Way that includes all people, especially the least, the lost, and certainly the least likely.

Enjoying and Dancing
EXODUS 15:19-21

“Then the prophet Miriam, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dancing.” – Exodus 15:20

“In this step, we talk about embracing the freedom of life and how this includes a call to spontaneity and celebration. Celebration is not just an idea but a lifestyle of gratitude and generosity.” Aizaiah and Nereyda Yong, Sacred Parenthood, Page 36-37

Enjoyment invites us to something deeper than being happy all the time. Rather, Enjoyment is about appreciating God's presence in the varied experiences of our lives — the joyful, the ordinary, and even the hard. Rather than pursuing happiness, we seek to pursue fullness. And fullness, once we notice it, does not sit still. Miriam carried a tambourine out of Egypt, and on the far side of the sea she picked it up. Dancing is an act as old as humanity, and it reflects the internal life of God (Perichoresis — the divine relational dance between the three parts of the Trinity). Enjoying teaches us to notice what God has given; Dancing is what we do with what we have noticed. Together they are gratitude given a body — celebration not as an idea, but as a way of life.

Restoring
LUKE 19:1-10

“Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” - Luke 19:8

“In [restoring], we allow ourselves to embrace…the importance of taking accountability for our actions and recommitting to a life of “no harm.” Aizaiah and Nereyda Yong, Sacred Parenthood, Page 36

There are times we cause harm. Sometimes that harm is intentional. Sometimes that harm is accidental. Either way, when we cause harm it is important that we seek to Restore and repair the harm we have done. Sometimes, this begins with an apology, but it never stops there.

being Curious
MATTHEW 7:7-11

“Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.” - Matthew 7:7

“Through compassionate curiosity, we can learn to welcome layers of our experience we may have previously missed or disregarded.” Aizaiah and Nereyda Yong, Sacred Parenthood, Page 35

The only way to find answers is to ask questions. Curiosity goes hand in hand with Acknowledging. Being curious about where feelings, reactions, hopes, frustrations, or whatever you may be experiencing at the time allows for exploration. What did we miss? Where do we need healing and wholeness? Further, being curious allows us to explore with others what they are experiencing. Curiosity helps us to be children of God together.
