One of the benefits of growing dill in the garden is it attracts pollinators. It also
attracts beneficial insects that eat pests.

Growing marigolds in the garden helps protect against harmful nematodes and insects as well as attracting pollinators and beneficial insects.

Summer flowers from the HTLC Food Pantry Garden

Before each plant bears vegetables, they bloom. And they are still blooming beautifully. Lets talk beans! Oh my goodness, they are prolific, which is a good thing! Sad to say, our cucumbers are done, and fingers crossed that the squash vines stay healthy another month.

There is a wideness in God’s mercy.

We sang those words together this past Sunday:

“There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea.”

What if God’s mercy is wider than the lines we so easily draw around ourselves, our communities, and the people we think deserve our care?

Maybe God’s mercy doesn’t need to become wider. Maybe our understanding of it does.

In this week’s Grace Notes, Pastor Travis Segar reflects on the hymn There Is a Wideness and how the words we sing in worship might slowly begin to shape the way we live.

Morning light, marigolds, and butternut squash turning gold!

Our garden team is hard at work harvesting summer veggies and tending to 20 feet of sweet potato vines that will head straight to our food pantry clients this fall.

This has been a good summer for Love Lunches! The team of 15 volunteers from 5 local churches have provided over 2,600 meals, as well as games and books, for school aged children from the community. Meal prep begins at 9am in the First United Methodist Church kitchen and it concludes at 1:30pm.

Thank you to everyone who has donated food or their time to help share God's love in the community!

We've had a good week in the garden! The garden is bursting with cucumbers and beans, all while the rest of the garden continues to flower and produce!

Another common piece of produce is sweet banana peppers. Provided by the garden team, suggestions for banana pepper preparation is scooping out the seeds, slicing them, and cooking them in olive oil to add flavors to rice, pasta, eggs, and more!

Our Food Pantry garden is more than just a garden. It is a way for Holy Trinity to share its love for the community. During the growing season, the produce grown here is given to the community.

Everything is grown by the community, for the community.

Every piece of produce, no matter the size, is a reminder that no matter how large your contribution, you are having a positive impact on the lives of others.
