“He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief…
- Because of His great and perfect love for humanity, Jesus knew sorrow and grief at the deepest level. And yet we find New Testament passages that show Him rejoicing and being thankful. I think the reason for that is because the sorrow He expressed was not for Himself, but for others. He saw His creation as sheep without a shepherd, weary and heavy burdened, deceived, and without hope.
I wonder how much of our sorrow is nothing more than a form of self pity, and how much is truly for the lost, the broken, and the hopeless??
I encourage you, on this Good Friday to read all of Isaiah 53 with an open heart and the Holy Spirit’s help. The Bible calls Jesus followers the light of the world, Christ’s ambassadors, the salt of the earth. Be that today! Reach out to those you know and care about who are far from God. Invite them to service this Resurrection Sunday that they might hear the gospel message, which still has the power to transform lives.
