✝️ Maundy Thursday: The Night of Love and Service

(Maundy Thursday)

On the Thursday before Easter, Christians remember a sacred night—
the night before the cross,
the night love was shown not in words alone, but in action.

Jesus gathered with His disciples for one final meal.
At the table, He took bread, broke it, and shared it.
He took the cup and passed it among them.
In these simple elements, He gave a lasting gift—
a way to remember His body and His sacrifice.

Then, in a moment that changed everything,
He knelt down.

The hands that formed the world
washed the dust from His followers’ feet.
Teacher became servant.
Master became humble.

And He gave them a command—
not complicated, not distant, but clear:
“Love one another, as I have loved you.”

This is where the name Maundy comes from—
a command to love, deeply and selflessly.

Later that night, in the quiet of a garden,
Jesus prayed with a heavy heart.
He knew what was coming.
Still, He chose obedience.

Soon after, betrayal came.
A kiss.
An arrest.
And the path toward the cross began.

💭 What This Night Means

Maundy Thursday is a call to remember:

Not power, but humility
Not status, but service
Not words alone, but love in action

It invites us to live what Jesus showed—
to serve others,
to love sacrificially,
and to prepare our hearts
for the sorrow of Good Friday
and the hope of Easter morning.

During the last week in Jerusalem, perhaps on Tuesday, Jesus taught about his return:
"Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."
Matthew 24:42-44 (NKJV)

On Monday:
When they arrived back in Jerusalem, Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people buying and selling animals for sacrifices. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves, and he stopped everyone from using the Temple as a marketplace. He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”
Mark 11:15-17 (NLT)
Paul wrote that "your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit" (1 Cor 6:19). Jesus wants to drive out everything that keeps you from fellowship with him. May our very lives be houses of prayer.
