Anderson United Methodist Church

Anderson United Methodist Church The people of Anderson United Methodist Church and Pastor Matt Cecil invite you to come and worship!

The Methodist heritage in Anderson, Texas is closely interwoven with the history of the locale. Dating from the era when Texas was a colony of Mexico, Over 150 years of Methodism has culminated in the present United Methodist Church of Anderson. The first meetings of the church were held at Fanthorpe Inn in 1839. The first church was a log cabin located where the Missouri Pacific Railroad station

was before it was torn down in 1844. By 1849, the church had grown so much that the present church site was purchased and a new church built. This new church building seeted about 400 people and was unusally large for its time. The church served both White and Black members and was in continuous use until it was replaced by the current sanctuary. In 1931 the present sanctuary was completed and it was dedicated in 1938 when it was cleared of debt. The bell from the old church still calls the people to worship. Other artifact, including the original silver communion service have been preserved.
