Thanks to everyone that came out today! We were able to harvest the sweet potatos (which are currently curing for the next beans and rice saturday), clear out the okra, and have planted garlic, turnips, and radishes.
Bees are still enjoying the basil, peppers are doing well, eggplants are still producing, herbs are doing great, and marigolds are thriving!

The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.
You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it.
You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the wilderness overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness.
The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.
Psalm 65: 8-13

To tend to the earth is always then to tend our destiny, our freedom and our hope…. To live in communion with the earth, fully acknowledging nature’s power with humility and grace, is a practice of spiritual mindfulness that heals and restores. Making peace with the earth we make the world a place where we can be one with nature. We create and sustain environments where we can come back to ourselves, where we can return home, stand on solid ground, and be a true witness.

These boxes are filled with a little bit of everything this week, and we love the community effort that made it possible!

We were able to harvest okra, eggplant, peppers, zinnias, and herbs from St. Mary’s Good News Garden, and our friend Joanna Watson offered eggs, bitter melons, cucumbers, peaches, zinnias, and celosia from her local farm. Allie Gordon and Kaitlin Dutton also helped create these colorful bouquets by adding even more greenery and flowers from their home flower gardens.

We love having the opportunity to add fresh produce to the St. Mary’s Rice and Beans Ministry happening 9-11am today! Let us know if you’d like to be involved for the next one!

Genesis 1:11-13 (ESV)
And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw it was good. And there was evening and there was morning the third day.

🐛Some of you might see this and think, “Oh no! This little pest is eating all the parsley!” But what if I told you this very hungry caterpillar will become a beautiful and beneficial black swallowtail butterfly 🦋? I was very happy to see this garden visitor and happy to let it continue its feast. Just a little reminder that God so loved the WORLD, and these little creatures are beneficiaries of God’s grace as well!

Want to help us tend the garden? Let us know how in the comments! Also be sure to let us know if there is a specific day you’re wanting to help.

Here are a few things we could use a hand with 👩‍🌾

🌱 pulling weeds
🐛 checking for pests
🍅 harvesting (usually the 3rd Thursday or Friday of the month)
💧watering the plants (may include fertilizing)
🗣️teaching a class about a garden related topic.

You don’t have to know everything about gardening and you don’t have to be a member of St. Mary’s to participate. We would just love to welcome you as someone who cares for creation and for this community. 🌻🌈🪴

My heart is filled with gratitude for the bounty within these fresh produce boxes!
Not only is the garden providing, but others in our community who care deeply about stewardship of the land, and sharing fresh produce are providing as well! Thank you so much to Joanna Watson at Southern Roots Farm for donating fresh herbs, onions, garlic, leeks, tomatoes, potatoes,berries, and eggs for us to share at Rice and Beans this morning! It was a delight to pack each box and we hope the contents will make each person who receives one feel nourished and cared for.
