Dear Friends,

At the conclusion of morning worship on October 31, 2021 the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church met to act on my request that we dissolve the pastoral relationship that has united us in ministry for the past eight years. It has been a privilege to serve this congregation and in this community for that time and I will always be grateful for those opportunities. On November 1, 2021 I will begin serving as the Regional Executive Presbyter for two presbyteries, the Presbytery of South Alabama and the Presbytery of Mississippi. I look forward to serving the church of Jesus Christ, those presbyteries and the Presbyterian Church (USA) in that capacity. If you have followed this page because we have had a personal connection, please look for the page of the Presbytery of South Alabama.

“As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Col. 3:12-17)

October 31, 2021 is observed as Reformation Sunday, the day we mark the event that many have seen as the moment that launched the Reformation of the church in the Western world. Today is the 504th anniversary of Martin Luther’s posting of his 95 Theses for Disputation on the door of the castle in Wittenberg, Germany. Our texts for the day are Isaiah 40:1-8 and Romans 8:11-27. Dr. Steve Hubbard plays “The Church of Christ in Every Age” (William Knapp; J. Bert Carlson, arr.) and “Praise Ye, Praise Ye the Lord” (Leonard Cooper Blanton).
