We rapidly approach the end of our trip through Deuteronomy, this Sunday being the next to last lesson from this amazing book. A reminder from Moses to the Israelites of the Law God gave to them, this time as they are about to enter their Promised Land of Canaan, is a strong reminder of the importance of obeying God, and ways they had to remember those laws. As Christians we live under the New Testament which also contains laws and principles we must obey if we are to be pleasing to God. The final lesson, for March 22, is about God's Blessings and Curses. Join us on Sundays at 10 am Pacific Time, on our website or on YouTube. statecollegeblvdchurchofchrist.org

We begin an 8 lesson series of studies in the Book of Numbers in the Old Testament. Lots of lessons to learn about the benefits of "numbering" the Children of Israel--lessons we can apply to ourselves individually and to our chuches. If you can't join us in person for Bible study at 9 and worship at 10, certainly join us for worship via LiveStream at our website--statecollegeblvdchurchofchrist.org--or catch us on YouTube. for the recorded service.

I have appreciated the good comments regarding the sermon series through the Bible, especially the current sermons from Leviticus. Even though the Law of Moses was given specifically to the Israelites, and as Christians we follow the New Covenant of Christ, the New Testament, there are many principles we find in the New Testament that we also see in the Old Testament. Even the apostle Paul who adamantly taught that Christians were not to be keeping the Law of Moses, wrote "The thing written aforetime were written for our learning. . ." If you don't already, connect with that sermon series through the church website, statecollegeblvdchurchofchrist.org or look for us on YouTube.

Tomorrow night, Wednesday night, July 9, our adult class begins a new series of study entitled, "The Prerequisites to Spiritual Living." This 26 lesson study focuses on the Biblical truth of what it means to be "spiritual" and how being spiritual impacts every aspect of a person's life. Bible study begins at 7 pm. If you are not in the Anaheim, CA area but would like to participate by Zoom, send me an email and I'll provide the Meeting Number and Passcode that allows you access to the class. Also, ask for the electronic version of the material and I'll email that to you. You will want to look at the material before classtime--we even have a "fill in the blank" portion at the end of the lessons. [email protected]

If you have ever said or heard someone say "I'm not all that religious but I'm very spiritual" this will be a good study for you--and for them. Feel free to invite others. Jimmy

Some of you wonder about many of the events that take place in what some call Holy Week or the Lenten Season. And the reason for that is that these "holidays" are man-made, sanctioned by various religious bodies but not taught in Scripture. You just don't find "Ash Wednesday" in Scripture any more than you do Maundy Thursday, Good Friday or Easter Sunday. One young Christian lady said it was all confusing to her--so I encouraged her to do a search for Lent, the Lenten Season, Holy Week and find the history of those terms and the events they encompass. For those of us who focus ON and IN the Word of God, these things are unknown and not practiced. As Christians, we are grateful for the birth of the Christ child and we remember weekly the resurrection of our crucified Lord. Those are not just holidays but Biblical truths. And we live DAILY for the Lord in keeping with His Word. Stay TRUE to that. And to God be the glory! Jimmy

The Christmas season is upon us. And although we don't know when Jesus was actually born, we ought to be thankful He was. I was impressed with a graphic I saw recently of a Santa Claus character saying "I have gifts for everyone." And the character representing Jesus said, "I have only one gift, but it's enough for everyone!" Be sure that you are sharing the "gift" of Jesus and salvation in Him during this time when many people think of Jesus as at no other time in the year. Use the opportunities you have to share the amazing gift of salvation that God provides for those who are in Christ Jesus.
