Presbytery of Los Ranchos

Presbytery of Los Ranchos The Presbytery of Los Ranchos is a diverse tapestry of people, churches and relationships.

With 56 churches, spanning an area of more than 2,000 square miles, speaking eight languages in worship on a Sunday morning and situated amongst a population of 5.2 million, the Los Ranchos Presbytery is a diverse tapestry of people, churches and relationships. Our churches are involved in ministry within their own neighborhoods, in partnership with each other across the presbytery, and partnering

with outside organizations such as World Vision. We, in the Los Ranchos Presbytery, are many things, but at our core we seek to further the Kingdom of God, by serving our congregations, in all that we are and do. Some of the ways we hope to do this are by:

~Being an environment that fosters learning
~Encouraging relationship amongst our churches and in the wider community
~Cultivating and nurturing that which makes us stronger together than on our own

What we are not:
~Primarily a regulatory body, seeking to keep track of our churches and make sure they ‘stay in line’
~“The man behind the curtain,” as in The Wizard of Oz. We do not exist to provide all of the answers or bestow words from on high
~Just a meeting. Though we do participate in ‘presbytery gatherings’ on a regular basis, the ‘presbytery’ is less a meeting and more an organic web of relationships and interconnectedness amongst our people and our churches

We believe that where two or three of us are gathered, ‘the presbytery is there.’

So, whether this be churches who partner together for Hurricane Katrina Recovery work on the Gulf Coast, the Y Malawi Network of those who are praying for and working with that African country, or partnerships that bridge the urban suburban divide that often splits our communities and churches, these are all examples of the Los Ranchos Presbytery.

"Memorial Day invites us into a sacred pause. It is more than a long weekend or the unofficial start of summer. It is a day set apart to remember, intentionally and reverently, those who gave their lives in service to others. It is also a day to acknowledge the quiet grief carried by families, friends and communities who continue living in the absence of someone they love."
In today's Mission Yearbook entry, the Rev. Dennis Hysom, Executive Director of Presbyterian Federal Chaplaincies, shares a Memorial Day Devotional. Read the full reflection here: https://hubs.ly/Q04hl-Cn0

As you may be aware, the Garden Grove community is currently under an emergency evacuation order due to a chemical spill. This order directly impacts the 172,000 residents of Garden Grove, and includes the area around New Praise Presbyterian Church, So Cal Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Anaheim Korean Presbyterian Church, New Hope Presbyterian Church, and Vietnamese/ First Presbyterian Church.

Please pray for these communities, and if you have friends from this area, it might be helpful to check in with them. In addition to Red Cross evacuation centers, if your church has facilities to offer or if your congregants have a need, please contact our office at [email protected].

Representation and Equity: God calls different people, with different backgrounds, experiences and lineages. As leaders in the church, our place at the various decision-making tables begins with God’s call to service and the practice of that vocation in the varying aspects of church life. Representation starts with recognizing that God calls a variety of people to God’s service, followed by the tapping and the empowerment of those whom God calls.
