Rev. She was a member here for 10 years taking on many leadership positions. Rev.

Judy Tomlinson arrived at the doors of the Unitarian Society of Orange County, now UUCA, on April 15, 1975, her first introduction to Unitarian Universalism. This congregation sent her to her first UU religious education training, a Renaissance Module in Santa Barbara, that set her on her path to professional religious leadership. She has served four UU congregations: Orange Coast and Santa Monica

as Director of Religious Education, UU Congregation at Montclair, NJ as Minister of RE and Associate Minister, and the UU Church of Long Beach as Bridge Minister. Judy graduated with her MDiv from Claremont School of Theology in 2000 and was ordained in 2001. She is married to Rob Godron and together they live in Huntington Beach. Judy is thrilled to be returning to UUCA as our minister! Judy will be in the pulpit on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, and also attend the Worship Arts Committee and Board of Trustees meetings.

“Meeting the Moment”
Rev. Dr. Matthew Johnson

How can congregations meet this moment – the national political context, the hunger for meaning, the epidemic of loneliness, – with bravery, curiosity, and creativity? This moment is fraught with danger and potential. So much is at stake. Yet, our history, present, and collective covenant can guide us as we answer this summons.

The Rev. Dr. Matthew Johnson is a third-generation Unitarian Universalist, a parent of two teenagers, a big nerd, and a lover of our faith. A graduate of Whitman College, Meadville Lombard Theological School, and Iliff School of Theology, he’s also the author of Newborn Bards: A Theology of Preaching For Unitarian Universalists. He’s been to all 50 states, and walked pilgrimages in Israel, Transylvania, New England, and 560 miles of the Camino de Santiago in Spain.

He is a Congregational Life Consultant for the MidAmerica Region of the UUA, working primarily with pastoral size congregations across the Midwest.

Language… it can be a tool used for good, and for not-so-good… it is a sharp tool… sharp in ways we aren’t even conscious of. Today’s reading deals with the language that frames the concept of “Disability.” As Unitarian Universalists, our words must be reflective of the religious, existential, and spiritual dimension of Disability and speak about it in a way that lifts up and reflects our Unitarian Universalist theology of wholeness and justice.

The Rev. Dr. Devorah Greenstein is on the Board of Directors of Equal Access, a group which promotes equality and access for Unitarian Universalists with disabilities, and Program Coordinator for the Office of Accessibility Concerns for the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Well-intentioned responses can unintentionally reinforce the very attitudes they seek to change, creating a cycle in which hate becomes more deeply entrenched. Matthew offers a practical, research-driven approach to breaking that cycle, equipping listeners with tools to respond to hate with curiosity and ultimately—love. Together, we can love the hate out of the world.

“How to Effectively Counter Hate and Spread Love in the Process”

Matthew Vasko is a Credentialed Religious Educator, Advanced Level in the Unitarian Universalist faith tradition, a writer, speaker, and host of the podcast It Matters How We Treat One Another. His work explores the social science of kindness, empathy, and compassion, helping people understand why the way we treat one another truly matters. Through his podcast, writing, and online community, he reaches hundreds of thousands of people each month with a message of hope, connection, and the transformative power of love.
