UUCA - Unitarian Universalist Church in Anaheim Be yourself here. Meet our Minister ~ Rev. Judy Tomlinson

Rev. She was a member here for 10 years taking on many leadership positions. Rev.

Judy Tomlinson arrived at the doors of the Unitarian Society of Orange County, now UUCA, on April 15, 1975, her first introduction to Unitarian Universalism. She has served four UU congregations: Orange Coast and Santa Monica

as Director of Religious Education, UU Congregation at Montclair, NJ as Minister of RE and Associate Minister, and the UU Church of Long Beach as Bridge Minister. Judy graduated with her MDiv from Claremont School of Theology in 2000 and was ordained in 2001. She is married to Rob Godron and together they live in Huntington Beach. Judy is thrilled to be returning to UUCA as our minister! Judy will be in the pulpit on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, and also attend the Worship Arts Committee and Board of Trustees meetings.

It has never been easy to be a person of progressive faith, especially in a time when Christian Nationalist ideas are so pervasive and religious practice can be manipulated in service to power and greed. Even in these painful times, let us remain steadfast in our Unitarian Universalist identity, confident in our knowing that our covenantal faith and practices, grounded in shared values, offer so much of what is needed to minister to this beautiful and struggling world.

As a people of a freely chosen faith centered on love, what spiritual teachings keep us grounded in the work? What comforts us in times of struggle? What moves us to make room for others’ perspectives and experiences in our own understandings of life? Treasure those resources. Celebrate them for the spiritual development that they offer. Above all else, share them with each other, for we become more than we were when we journey together.

We are grateful for their activism, community care, and resistance ministry.

The Volunteer Service Award will be given to Minnesota UUs during General Assembly, as part of the General Session on Tuesday, June 16. Please join us in celebrating at GA. Learn more and register at the link in the comments below.

May 24: “Free to Be: Keeping Faith in These Difficult Times”

Speaker: Rev. Anne Felton Hines

Many of us are feeling more helpless and more hopeless about the state of our country and the world than we’ve felt in a very long time, maybe ever. How do we protect ourselves from despair? Where do we find the courage to keep resisting the atrocities we are witnessing?

Rev. Hines has served Unitarian Universalist congregations in Southern California since 1984. Upon official retirement in 2014, Emerson UU Church granted her Minister Emerita status. She chairs the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the ACLU, participates in actions to preserve our Democracy, and volunteers weekly as a pianist at Kaiser Medical Center in Woodland Hills.
