There are seasons in life when the future feels uncertain. Plans change. Timelines stretch. Promises seem distant. In Genesis 18 and 21, Sarah and Abraham know that feeling well. After years of waiting, God’s promise finally comes to life in a way they never expected.

Join us next Sunday at Anaheim as we explore the theme Grow in Possibilities. Together we will reflect on what it means to trust God when hope feels fragile, to remain open to surprise, and to discover that God is still at work even when we cannot yet see the outcome.

Communion Worship reminds us that God continually meets us at the table with grace, renewal, and possibility. Wherever you find yourself on your journey, there is a place for you here.

What possibilities might God be inviting you to grow into? We would love to explore them together.

During Pride Month, we celebrate the sacred truth that every person is created and loved by God.

"I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." — Psalm 139:14

These words remind us that God's creative work is not a mistake. Every person bears the image of God and possesses sacred worth. That includes our transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse siblings.

At Anaheim, we affirm that transgender people are beloved children of God. Their identities, experiences, and gifts are not barriers to God's love or participation in the life of the church. We celebrate the courage it takes to live authentically and the beauty that is revealed when people are free to be who God created them to be.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to stand with those who are marginalized, to reject discrimination and harm, and to build communities where all people can flourish. We consistently renew our commitment to creating spaces of belonging, safety, and affirmation for LGBTQIA+ people, especially our trans siblings who continue to face misunderstanding, exclusion, and violence.

We believe that every person deserves to hear and know this truth:

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
You are loved by God.
You belong here.

What does it mean to grow in faith?

Romans 4:13-25 offers an answer that is deeper than simply believing harder or being more certain. Paul points to Abraham, not as someone who never doubted, but as someone who learned to trust God's promise even when every visible piece of evidence suggested otherwise.

When we read this passage closely, Paul is making a radical argument. The promise God gave Abraham was not earned through obedience to religious law. It was received through trust. The inheritance came through faith, not achievement.

This matters because Paul is speaking to communities struggling with belonging. Who gets included in God's family? Those who have the right background? The right traditions? The right credentials?

Paul's answer is no.

Abraham became the ancestor of faith before the law existed. The promise was always bigger than rules, boundaries, and human systems. God's covenant was rooted in grace from the beginning.

The deeper meaning emerges in verses 17-21. Paul describes Abraham as believing in "the God who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist."

Faith, then, is not pretending reality is different than it is.

Abraham knew he was old. Sarah knew she was old. They understood the impossibility of the situation. Faith was not denial. Faith was trusting that God's creative power was greater than the limitations they could see.

This is where many of us live today.

We look at broken relationships and wonder if reconciliation is possible.
We look at injustice and wonder if change can happen.
We look at ourselves and wonder whether growth, healing, or transformation is still available.

Romans reminds us that faith is not confidence in ourselves. It is confidence in the God who creates new possibilities where none seem to exist.

Paul concludes by connecting Abraham's story to Jesus. The same God who fulfilled the promise to Abraham is the God who raised Jesus from the dead. The resurrection becomes the ultimate sign that God's future is never limited by our present circumstances.

Growing in faith is learning to trust that God's promises are larger than our fears, stronger than our limitations, and more enduring than the obstacles before us.

Faith does not ignore reality.

Faith sees reality clearly and still chooses hope.

1 Corinthians 12:12-14 (NRSVue)

"For just as the body is one and has many members and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.

For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many."

One of scripture's most beautiful images is the Body of Christ. Paul reminds us that God's community is strongest not when everyone is the same, but when every person's unique gifts are welcomed and valued.

During Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQIA+ members, friends, families, and neighbors whose lives, gifts, leadership, and faith enrich our congregation and community.

We believe diversity is not a problem to solve but a gift to embrace. God's Spirit moves through people of many experiences, identities, and perspectives, drawing us together in love and purpose.

As we continue to grow in faith, may we also grow in our capacity to welcome, listen, learn, and celebrate one another.

At Anaheim Community of Christ, we believe that unity is not found in everyone being the same. It is found in learning to love one another across our differences.

We celebrate the beautiful diversity of God’s creation and affirm that every person is a beloved child of God, worthy of dignity, belonging, and love. Our differences in background, culture, experience, identity, and perspective do not diminish our worth. They enrich our shared community and help us better reflect the fullness of God’s image.

In a world where many people, including our transgender siblings, are experiencing fear, uncertainty, and exclusion, we believe the gospel calls us to something better. Jesus consistently moved toward those who were marginalized and reminded us that every person has sacred worth.

We strive to be a community where all people can experience welcome, compassion, and authentic belonging. We do not have to agree on everything to recognize one another’s humanity. We do not have to understand every experience to choose kindness. We do not have to be alike to be united.

As followers of Christ, we continue to build communities of peace where every person is seen, valued, and loved.

All are welcome. All are needed. All belong.

We continue to hold prayers of gratitude as the Garden Grove chemical emergency appears to be resolving without harm to our members and the surrounding communities. We are thankful for the work of first responders and for the care shown throughout the situation.

As a reminder, there will be no church gathering this Sunday. We encourage everyone to enjoy a restful weekend and meaningful time with family and loved ones.

Looking ahead, we invite you to join us for Communion Worship at our sister congregation, Orange Community of Christ, on the first Sunday in June. Communion is a sacred opportunity to gather in community, reflect on Christ’s peace, and share together in worship, fellowship, and renewal. We hope you will join us as we begin the month centered in gratitude, hope, and community.
