How can I tell if I’ve lost my first love for God, and what practical steps can I take to restore it?

Rev. 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

What routine replaced passion for God? Consider the last time you were genuinely excited to meet with Him in prayer or genuinely moved by a familiar verse. Remember the fire of your earliest encounters with Christ—that overwhelming gratitude, that desperate dependence, that consuming desire to know Him more.

What shifted? What crept in to steal that flame? In honest reflection lies the pathway back to burning devotion.

Someone left a question under one of my recent posts and asked, “Why would you have to tell a pastor if you missing?”

Let me try to answer this, assuming it was a serious question.

⏺️Would you call your coach to tell him you were not going to make it for the game?
⏺️Do you call your job to tell them you’re not coming to work?
⏺️Do you call your wife to tell her you’re not going to be there for supper after she’s been cooking all afternoon?
⏺️Do you call your buddies to tell them you’re not going to go fishing or playing golf after you have already organized to go with them?
⏺️Do you call the airline or hotel and cancel if you’re not coming or do you just not show up?
As a member of a church, there is an expectation for you to attend.

Being a pastor, let me add some perspective.

✅Your pastor has been praying for you and your family all week.
✅He has been reading and studying and preparing messages to feed your hearts.
✅He’s also been appointed by the Holy Ghost to be the overseer of the flock.
✅He will stand before God and give account to God for your soul.
✅He’s been tasked by God to equip you, instruct you, edify you and teach you.
✅He loves you and your family more than you could imagine.

Having the courtesy and the respect to let him know you will not be there is the very least you could do to show your appreciation for his investment and influence in your life. To simply not show up without a courtesy call to your man of God is inconsiderate and it creates unnecessary stress and questions in his mind.

Questions like:
❓Are they sick?
❓Are they offended?
❓Are they leaving the church?
❓Did I say something wrong?
…and on and on I could go.
It’s distracting, concerning and nerve-wracking (if you have a real pastor.)

A simple text message can alleviate all of that concern and confusion and it will help your pastor know where you are if someone asks him. It will calm his mind and settle his heart and allow him to continue through the service without worrying about it.

It’s called accountability, respect, and awareness of your responsibility as a member to be in your place.

⚠️How could anybody think it is a good idea to just simply not show up at your church where you are supposed to be (if you’re a member of the body) without any respect or concern for the rest of the body?

🔰 1 Corinthians 12
20 But‭ now‭‭ ‭are they‭ many‭ ‭members‭‭, yet but‭ one‭ body‭.‭
25 That‭‭ there should be‭‭ no‭ schism‭ in‭ the body‭; but‭ ‭that‭ the ‭members‭‭ should have‭‭ the same‭ care‭‭ one for‭ another‭.
‭26 And‭ whether‭ one‭ member‭ suffer‭‭, all‭ the ‭members‭‭ suffer with it‭‭; or‭ one‭ member‭ be honoured‭‭, all‭ the ‭members‭‭ rejoice with it‭‭.‭
‭27 Now‭ ye‭ are‭‭ the body‭ of Christ‭, and‭ ‭members‭‭ in‭ particular‭.‭

Why does God give us gifts if He knows we might neglect them?

2Tim 1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Don’t waste your gifts and calling.
Dormant gifts are like unplanted seeds locked in a drawer—full of potential but producing nothing. Consider the parable of the talents in Matthew 25. The servant who buried his talent didn't lose it through recklessness; he simply failed to use it. His master's response was severe because inaction itself is a form of unfaithfulness.

What gift have you let go dormant? Perhaps it's hospitality, once freely extended but now forgotten amid life's rush. Maybe it's a creative ability—writing, music, art—that once glorified God but now gathers dust. It could be the gift of encouragement, wisdom, or leadership that others desperately need from you.

Will you be prepared?

How's Your Walk In Faith?
2 Corinthians 5:7 kjv
7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
Can you remember a time you went through a difficult experience in your life and you're fearful of what the future the future might hold. To encourage you, somebody told you, "you can do it, one day at a time. Remember just walk by your religion, not by sight." To walk by religion, to a biblically literate Christian, the very sound of that little phrase is disturbing, to say the least.
You probably know what Paul was saying in the verse above, and yes even the verse walking by faith seems contrary to common sense. However, walking by things which are tangible structures, things that are seen, to place our hope on, buildings, traditions, schedules, literature, ministers, and the like. If we walk by faith, we have only the promises of God, which are sufficient. " The substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen Hebrews 11:1. From thousands of years of history, we know God has been faithful and kept His promises to those who trusted Him, and we can know, He will keep His promises for us.
If, at any time, you are facing an uncertain future (and who at times isn't), remember to walk by faith, God given faith, faith in God who promises He " will never leave you, nor forsake you" Hebrews 13:5.
Walking by faith, where we are prepared to trust God, where we are not permitted to see.
All my Hope is in Jesus!!!
