Covid-19 1st Update 3-17-2020
Oak Update: Although it goes against the “Oak mentality” as some of you have put it, the decision to forego the main services and all other activities at church building until March 31st has been made. We didn’t make the decision lightly, but we want to honor our national, state and local leadership and do our best to keep people safe. We continue to trust the Lord and believe that this is a great opportunity for families and individuals to be drawn together at home or creatively through our phones and computers to share in study, worship and encouragement of one another and learn to feed ourselves and our families more consistently in God’s Word.

We will make some resources available by Friday for you to use if/as you want for this Sunday. We’re praying that individuals and families are praying/sharing/reading God’s Word together more since we have this great gift of time.

Look for the Spirit to guide in ways to serve/encourage others-many of you have been doing that already and we will let you know of other opportunities as they come up and we ask that you let us know as well. We will be contacting you and checking on needs and prayer requests so be looking for texts or calls from us.

On March 31st we will re-evaluate the situation and ask the Lord to guide in further decisions concerning group meetings. Remember the church is the people and our calling is the same no matter where we are! God is good-all the time! Sincerely-Oak Elders

March 15, 2020--Sunday Summary

Jim Kinsinger opened the service by reading the events and announcements. Joel Mitchell took new prayer requests and led us in prayer. The Praise Band led us in our celebration of praise as we sang “I’ll Fly Away”, “Your Love Awakens Me” and “See A Victory”. Joel Mitchell then prepared our hearts and minds for communion. Our communion hymn was “Revelation Song”. Joel Mitchell gave the message from 2 Chronicles 20. Have you feared this week? This is an opportunity to show that we are different than the rest of the world because of our faith; we are not held captive by fear. Jehoshaphat’s prayer before the battle in 2 Chronicles 20:12 was, “O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” We can go to God when we are scared, discouraged, tired, weak and honestly tell God we do not know what to do, but our eyes are on God, and He will give us a peace that surpasses all understanding. We can encourage others to go to God too. We can worship God before, during, and after His deliverance because God is good regardless of what happens today or tomorrow. Please pray for families effected, health workers, countries and leaders, national guard and first responders, elderly and those with compromised immune systems, nursing homes, and the church and its response as individuals to communities. The church needs to be the church, so the world will know it’s the world. What Scriptures bring us comfort? Do we truly believe what we say we believe? Bryant Kagay gave the benediction and we closed with “Abide With Me”.

March 8, 2020--Sunday Summary

Jim Kinsinger opened the service by reading the events and announcements. Joel Mitchell took new prayer requests and led us in prayer. The Praise Band led us in our celebration of praise as we sang “Build Your Kingdom”, “Glorious Day” and “You Say”. Connie Puterbaugh then prepared our hearts and minds for communion. Our communion hymn was “Reckless Love”. Joel Mitchell gave the message from 2 Peter 3. Do you believe Jesus will return someday? The false teachers were questioning Jesus’ return to other followers; they forgot that God keeps His promises, which we see over and over in scripture. When Jesus said He would prepare a place for us, He meant it. Can you see in your life that God drew you to Him at just the right time, and He showed up to help you at just the right time? God sent Jesus to the earth as a child at just the right time and He will return at just the right time. 2 Peter 3:8-9 says, “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” We know for sure the day of the Lord is coming so we need to pursue the relationship with Jesus now and tell others about Him too. Do you want to be happy or holy, and are you willing to obey? Joe Kagay gave the benediction and we closed with “O Come to the Altar”.

March 1, 2020--Sunday Summary

Jim Kinsinger opened the service by reading the events and announcements. Joel Mitchell took new prayer requests and led us in prayer. The Praise Band led us in our celebration of praise as we sang “My Redeemer Lives”, “Hosanna” and “Way Maker”. Sarah Schuman then prepared our hearts and minds for communion. Our communion hymn was “Resurrecting”. Joel Mitchell gave the message from 2 Peter 2. Have you been misled by false teaching? False teachers make the decision to not honor God. They worm their way in to unsuspecting people and speak non-reverent about God, putting their own spin about Jesus. 2 Peter 2:14-15 tells us about false teachers, “They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray.” Verse 19 goes on to say, “They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.” We can fall into this trap when we do not trust God to provide what is best for us, we want what we want, and we want it now. We are not to act like everyone else, we are called to be set apart, to be known by our love for others, not ourselves. Do we want to be happy or do we want to be holy? Do we want what God wants for us or do we think we know better? Do we understand there are eternal consequences to our choices? Daryl Price gave the benediction and we closed with “In Christ Alone”.

February 23, 2020--Sunday Summary

Jim Kinsinger opened the service by reading the events and announcements. Joel Mitchell took new prayer requests and led us in prayer. The Praise Band led us in our celebration of praise as we sang “I Saw the Light”, “Forever Reign” and “His Name”. Jeff Hahn then prepared our hearts and minds for communion. Our communion hymn was “Jesus Loves Me”. Joel Mitchell gave the message from Mark 1. Have you come to the place where you are done trying the fix life in your own strength and you finally turn it over to God? We have a choice, we can either submit or choose to fight God. It is hard to come to a place of submission to God, but that is where we find peace. Mark 1:35 says, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” Jesus needed to submit to the gospel plan of the cross and submit to the Father just as we need to; that was not easy to do. Jesus prayed for strength too. We need to give up our pride, arrogance, and ugliness to God. We have been promised victory if we submit to God’s lordship, placing our lives in God’s hands, receive His mercy, grace, and forgiveness. What’s your response to what’s happening in your life or the life of others around you? Are you walking with Jesus and walking along side others or are you judging? Rob Renfro gave the benediction and we closed with “Break Every Chain”.

February 16, 2020--Sunday Summary

Jim Kinsinger opened the service by reading the events and announcements. Joel Mitchell took new prayer requests and led us in prayer. Mrs. Vivian Price led us in our celebration of praise as we sang “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus”, “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” and “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past”. The Sunday School Kids then prepared our hearts and minds for communion. Our communion hymn was “Let Us Break Bread Together”. Joel Mitchell gave the message from 2 Peter 2. Have you forgotten who Jesus is and what he has done for you? 2 Peter 2:1-3 tells us, “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed, they will exploit you with false words.” False prophets know the truth, but they secretly sow seeds to bring about what they want instead of what God wants because they want the gain for themselves. In Genesis, Abram let Lot choose which land and Lot took what looked like the better land for himself. He first pitched his tent near S***m and looked upon temptation, then ended up moving into the city which ended up being a bad decision. If Lot would have been leading his household the way he should, his family wouldn’t have stayed behind, and his wife wouldn’t have looked back to S***m. When we see temptation, we need to run the other way, not move in. We must not forget the God’s truths. Have you forgotten you’ve been cleansed from your sins because of what Jesus did for you on the cross? Does God want us happy or holy? What do you want? Mark Murphy gave the benediction and we closed with “Have Thine Own Way, Lord”.

February 2, 2020--Sunday Summary

Jim Kinsinger opened the service by reading the events and announcements. Joel Mitchell took new prayer requests and led us in prayer. The Praise Band led us in our celebration of praise as we sang “Only King Forever”, “Scandal of Grace” and “Living Hope”. Stan Gabbard then prepared our hearts and minds for communion. Our communion hymn was “Glorious Day”. Joel Mitchell gave the message from 2 Peter 1. Do you want to grow as a Christian? It is too easy to become complacent, to not make progress but just be established; I’m here but I’m stuck in the mud and not moving. 1 Peter 2:5-7 says, “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement you faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.” Jesus gave us virtue with his death on the cross, now we need to work on knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. Everything we are today we owe to Jesus Christ, our Savior. Once we’ve been broken and repented, we die to ourselves, we become seeds and our objective is to grow as a Christian. God doesn’t break us to leave us broken, His desire is to change us to then change the world through us. Do you remember the feeling of being cleansed from your sin? Are you willing to walk with others to help them and allow others to help you too? Alan Hutchcraft gave the benediction and we closed with “Overcome”.

January 26, 2020--Sunday Summary

Jim Kinsinger opened the service by reading the events and announcements. Joel Mitchell took new prayer requests and led us in prayer. Th Praise Band led us in our celebration of praise as we sang “I’ll Fly Away”, “Reckless Love” and “Great I Am”. Andy Clark then prepared our hearts and minds for communion. Our communion hymn was “Jesus I Believe”. Joel Mitchell gave the message from 2 Peter 1. What would you want to pass on to others if you knew your time was short? These are the things Peter wrote in 2 Peter, the knowledge and peace Peter wanted to pass on to others. Peter gave us God’s definition of love: a devotion to the wellbeing of others. 2 Peter 1:5-7 tells us, “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.” The world says it’s all about taking care of yourself; however, Peter tells us it’s not about you, it’s about taking care of others. Do you believe you have faith of equal standing with Peter or Paul? Peter tells us we do, and we need to believe that, so we show the same urgency and responsibility as the apostles did. We all have a role to play in equal standing. Have you accepted your calling? Barry Kagay gave the benediction and we closed with “He Leadeth Me”.

January 19, 2020--Sunday Summary

Joel Mitchell opened the service by reading the events and announcements, and he took new prayer requests and led us in prayer. Mrs. Vivian Price led us in our celebration of praise as we sang “I’ll Fly Away”, “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us” and “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus”. Rachel Kagay then prepared our hearts and minds for communion. Our communion hymn was “Break Thou the Bread of Life”. Joel Mitchell gave the message from 1 Timothy 1 and James 3. When did you not have peace in your life? When peace was absent, was there an abundance of despair, anger, pride, hate, fear, or jealousy? James 3:13-16 says, “Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” Have you received a sincere apology from someone? Did it wow you? We should be sowing and reaping a harvest of peace. Jesus willingly gave his life for peace between us and God. What are we willing to do to create peace? Will we choose Jesus Christ with our free will? Stan Gabbard gave the benediction and we closed with “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”.
