Saint Elmo is the patron of sailors and stomach ailments and against storms. He is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. Legend records that when a blue light appears at mastheads before and after a storm, the seamen took it as a sign of St. Elmo's protection. This was known as "St. Elmo's fire".

Last weekend, we blessed the newly installed images of Jesus (Divine Mercy and Sacred Heart) and St. Michael the Archangel in our church.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 2132) reminds us that "the Christian veneration of images is not contrary to the first commandment" and is rooted in the mystery of the Incarnation. These images invite us to "contemplate the glory of the Lord, His face unveiled," as St. John Damascene explained.

Installing these images of Jesus and St. Michael provides a vital visual theology, offering a focal point for veneration, acting as windows to the divine that instruct the faithful, inspire prayer, and serve as visible signs of spiritual protection.

As we honor these sacred images, let us trust in Jesus' divine mercy and seek the protection of the powerful Archangel. May Jesus, meek and humble of heart, touch our hearts through His Most Sacred Heart and make them like His. Amen. 🙏🏽
