Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst, MA

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst, MA Immanuel is a congregation of the ELCA šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). Come and See!

Welcome to Immanuel Lutheran Church, a vibrant faith community committed to being God’s Love in Action. Rooted in the Gospel of Christ, we don’t claim to have all the answers; instead, we discern together how the Spirit calls us to live out love, justice, and mercy in the world. We celebrate God’s expansive love and share it abundantly, affirming all people regardless of age, race, s*x, housing st

atus, ethnicity, s*xual orientation, gender identity or expression, immigration status, socioeconomic status, or ability. Practicing radical hospitality, we invite everyone to fully participate in this community of faith as we explore God’s promise for all.

This Sunday, we celebrate the Holy Trinity…which means we are about to talk about God in math problems and metaphors that never quite hold up.

Three in one.

One in three.

And somehow the church has been trying to explain it for centuries without accidentally becoming heretics.

But maybe the Trinity was never meant to be solved like a puzzle.

Maybe it was meant to be experienced.

The Trinity reminds us that at the very center of the universe is relationship. Not loneliness. Not power for power’s sake. But connection.

Love shared and given away. Creator. Christ. Spirit. Distinct, yet inseparable. A living movement of grace constantly reaching outward toward the world.

And here’s the wild part: we are invited into that love.

Not once we have it all figured out.
Not once our faith is perfect.
Not once our lives are polished and presentable.

Now.

This Sunday, we’ll explore what it means to belong to a God who is bigger than our explanations, closer than our fears, and always drawing us deeper into mercy, community, and new life.

Come wrestle with mystery.

Come rest in grace.

Come discover that sometimes the holiest thing we can do…is stop trying to control God long enough to simply stand in awe.

Pentecost.

Which turns out to be less about speaking in different languages…and more about finally learning to speak the language of love.

The Spirit arrives with wind and fire—

not to overwhelm, but to wake people up.

People who thought they were too ordinary.

Too uncertain.

Too afraid.

Too late.

Suddenly, doors open.

Words come.

Community forms.

Not because they figured everything out…

…but because God showed up.

Pentecost reminds us that faith was never meant to stay quiet,
private, or safely tucked away.

The Spirit still moves.

Still surprises.

Still gathers strangers into neighbors and neighbors into community.

Maybe the miracle isn’t that everyone heard in their own language.

Maybe the miracle is that people who had every reason to stay divided discovered they belonged to one another.

Join us this Sunday as we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and ask what God might still be stirring among us.

Open hearts.
Unexpected courage.
God’s love in action.

This Sunday, we hear Jesus say,
ā€œI will not leave you orphaned… I am in you.ā€
But what does that actually mean?

In a world where we want certainty, control, and something we can point to, resurrection keeps slipping out of our grasp.

Maybe that’s the point.

What if Easter isn’t an exception to reality—
but a revelation of its deepest truth?

Join us as we explore how the risen Christ is not something we can contain, but a presence we awaken to—right here, right now.

Called by Name!

There are a lot of voices out there claiming to lead…fear, intimidation, outrage, scarcity, certainty.

Jesus says, calmly: ā€œThat’s not my voice.ā€

This Sunday, we explore what it actually means to be ā€œsavedā€ā€¦not as a future destination, but as a present-tense healing, a life being put back together. The Shepherd calls by name, leads from the front, and opens a way into something deeper than survival: abundant life, right now.

And along the way?

Bread broken. Eyes opened. God’s love in action.
