Swinging Bridge�
I was all too eager to play my best Indiana Jones crossing the tiny, wooden, swinging bridge over a ravine on a recent romp through the woods. The most interesting and disconcerting part of the experience was the way the motion generated with each step communicated back and forth across that bridge. Any others also traversing experienced this bouncing causing an odd sensation of imbalance and vertigo which seemed to remain even after reaching the security of solid ground. � A life of faith is undoubtedly such an adventure. Any hesitancy we may have is linked to the way that our journey of faith will make us feel imbalanced and of sorts with what surrounds us (turn the other cheek, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, love God and love neighbor, the first is last and last is first, etc.). With each step we take, we experience those choices communicated back and forth some compelling us forward and some perhaps leaving us standing right where we are not sure whether security is to be found ahead or behind. In addition, our journey on a life of faith is communicated to all those around us, shifting the world beneath their feet based on our own choices. Will we risk it?? Do we dare take the steps across??� Cue the music, grab your hat, and set off across the bridge of grace. Our crossing is ultimately assured, the journey secure … with the adventure until we step on the solid ground of God’s loving embrace well worth every step!��-Pastor Daven

It employs a small passage of scripture read four times in four different translations interspersed with silence to engage with scripture more deeply. This devotional act lets God’s word speak to us. It is a great meditative practice which only requires a little bit of time!

Our passage is Psalm 119:169-176.

Goldenrod�� The brightness of summer’s resplendence is beginning to wane alongside the length of daylight. Even with our recent rain, the colors generally have become muted as our season begins to shift. But there are a couple of bright spots rebelling against this trend.� I’m not sure why, but I feel like the goldenrod this year is exceptionally golden. It feels like the intense yellow of a highlighter in the landscape, as if drops of sunshine have fallen to the earth and taken shape and color in flower. With each encounter that impression sticks with me, itself brightening my world with its lingering memory.� It would be easy among all the headlines and heartaches to mirror the muted colors of our landscape. Like the goldenrod, however, we are called to brighten our world. We let God’s Son-shine fall into our lives illuminating our outlook and eyes. It is a celebration that no matter the season of life, God’s Son-shine remains in the color of the life, teachings, death, and resurrection highlighted to us and through us. And as much as that is a beacon of hope to us, it brightens our world as it rebels against the trend of darkness and death through the lingering memory of God’s Son-shine!��-Pastor Daven
