Encounter Culture: October Newsletter -

I grew up in church in the 80’s and 90’s, and had a front row seat to the cultural tension within the church between the ideas of God as friend, and God as holy. Church leaders struggled with their desire that people should be brought into a personal relationship with Jesus, and the potential ....

Check our Rev. Amy’s recent blog post, “Sin eaters, codependency, and the John the Baptist lifestyle: Finding a safe place for pain (part one)”

“Sin and pain are set sums, all of which were the product of being separated from the vine, and all of which may be healed as the life of the vine courses through the wounds of Christ into our very selves. And I also believe that, for a variety of reasons (very few of which are intentional), we exclude certain aspects of our pain and sin from the healing life.”

Stella’s Kingdom Testimony!

“I wasn’t sure what to expect from [Kingdom], besides learning a lot about healing prayer. But throughout the course, I was able to practice what was learned immediately after each session, experiencing the Presence of the Holy Spirit, and seeing the healing of brokenness and pain. Immediately after the training, I was able to join an Encounter Weekend as an apprentice [prayer minister] which gave me great confidence to pray for people myself.”

“Kingdom Ministry Training is not primarily about collecting information. It’s not about learning how to sprinkle in a little bit of healing prayer at the end of a Sunday morning church service. Kingdom training is about cultural transformation — which means it looks more like getting a little information and then going. And not just going to get a few more people to take a class and then telling them to get going in their communities. For leaders, culture change means going first. To be conduits of transformation, we must ourselves be in a process of transformation.”
— an excerpt from the Kingdom Ministry Training Manual

Jon’s Encounter Testimony:

“Over the decade of my involvement with Encounter Weekends, I've been transformed from someone who believed the gospel was good to someone who's experienced freedom from bo***ge, learned how to pray for
others, and bring freedom to others simply by sharing my own story of experiencing the goodness and love of God." -Jon, Maine

If Jon’s testimony resonated with you, we’d love to invite you to our next Encounter Weekend!

when:
October 21-23

Monterey, MA

Adam & Ashley’s Encounter Testimonies! After attending an Encounter Weekend, both Adam & Ashley decided to sign-up for the Kingdom Course. They wanted others to have the same opportunity for a catalytic experience with God, just like they’d each had!

“Encounter, for me, was the single-most redirecting event of my adult life. God picked me up and completely changed my trajectory. I left feeling as though I had never seen colors before- my relationship with the Trinity came alive! I was able to look back at events in my life, and see all the ways God had been pursuing me. I arrived bitter, burnt out, and starving. I left alive, filled with joy, and excited about my life in Christ!"
— Ashely

“"Going from Encounter to Kingdom felt natural. I wanted to share the healing I myself had experienced. The Kingdom course gave me a new perspective of what living empowered by the Holy Spirit looks like and the authority we are given in Christ. It helped me see that we should not stick ourselves on the sidelines, but are able to participate in the work of Christ, bringing healing to us and those around us.”
— Adam

An excerpt from the Kingdom Ministry Training Manual:

“To be conduits of transformation, we must ourselves be in a process of transformation. The road to freedom must be lined not by those who look like they have it all together but by those who need the road to freedom and travel it themselves regularly. The culture of accountability and mutual respect builds on the humility of learning together and discovering the dynamics of the work of the Holy Spirit through his people.”

Meet Encounter Culture’s Director and Founder, Rev. Amy Howard!! Amy is an ordained pastor and healing prayer minister in the Anglican Diocese of New England. She received a Bachelor’s Degree of Music in Vocal Performance at Houghton College’s Greatbatch School of Music. Having met both the third member of the Trinity as well as the president of the theological society (her now husband, Justin) during her Sophomore year at Houghton, she traded in Brahms for the prayer room, and quiet Sunday afternoons for family life with six kiddos. She, her husband, their six boys, and a constantly varying number of smaller creatures (currently a dog, a cat, and some chickens) reside in rural New Hampshire. When she’s not praying or teaching, you can find Amy working in her orchard or baking various breads and pastries with her boys.
