What a powerful day to be the church!

This past Sunday, more than 50 members of Collegiate United Methodist Church showed up and stood together at the AMOS 30th Anniversary We the People Convention.

Alongside 1,200 citizen leaders representing 40 institutions across five counties in Central Iowa, we celebrated 30 years of organized people power and recommitted ourselves to building a community where everyone can thrive.

The convention lifted up important issues facing our neighbors, from water quality and public school funding to EMS response times, refugee and immigrant workforce protections, and support for vulnerable seniors. Together, leaders secured concrete commitments from candidates to work on these shared priorities.

Thank you to our 50+ Collegiate UMC members who showed up, listened, shared, stood together, and represented our church so faithfully. Your presence is a reminder that our faith calls us not only to worship together, but to organize, build relationships, and work for a community where all people can flourish.

Shoutout to Kim for being the best bus driver ever and transporting a large group from Ames!

We are grateful to be part of this work, and we’re just getting started.

There’s something special about starting a new school year together.

Some of our church family are out front this morning handing out snacks, sharing smiles, and wishing students a great first day. We’re glad to send them off with a little encouragement and lots of prayers for the year ahead.

Middle School Service Trip Kansas City 2026

What a trip! Our middle schoolers packed a lot into our Kansas City service trip, and we couldn’t be prouder.

With 12 youth and 4 adults, we spent our time serving, learning, laughing, and growing together. We had some fun at Worlds of Fun, but the heart of our trip was serving our neighbors:

At Harvesters, we processed carrots and potatoes that will help provide food for people throughout the region.

With Metro Lutheran Ministry, we stuffed backpacks with school supplies and prepared 100 sack lunches for community members.

We also shopped for school supplies to support the children and families at Saint Luke’s Hospital Crittenton Children’s Center.

A huge thank you to the gracious congregation at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral for welcoming us and giving us a place to call home for the week. We are especially grateful to Mother Clare, who took such wonderful care of our group. We were honored to join the congregation for Mid-Day Eucharist and experience their hospitality and worship together.

We are grateful for the organizations that welcomed us, the people we met along the way, and most of all, for these 12 young people who showed up ready to serve.

We came home tired, full of memories, and reminded once again that faith is something we live out by loving and serving our neighbors.
