On Sunday, Lauren Conley created an acrylic paint and mixed media work during our services titled, “United in Christ”. Here is what she had to say about it:
"As we have been reflecting on the first few chapters of 1 Corinthians, I have deeply felt the ways in which our world is currently so divided.
This painting became a prayer over the church, beginning with lament. I intentionally chose deep blue, red, purple, and gray to signify the grief and pain of sin and division in our world, and the acts of injustice that stem from that place.
Next, I wanted to pray for and display unity, as we are called to view all people as image-bearers of God, and remember who we are in relationship with Christ.
To do this, I chose to weave strips of paper, cut from magazines with a variety of colors, patterns, faces, and stories. I wove these individual pieces into larger sections of paper that I painted gold. After weaving, I assembled the larger pieces into the shape of a cross.
I used this creative process to pray and to show that when we, as individuals, are connected with Christ, we can be unified. And, when we are interconnected with one another, we can share the beauty, power, love, and hope of Christ in the midst of a broken world."
Please check out this piece up close after our services this Sunday. It will be on display at the front of the auditorium.
