1,000 people gathered yesterday to celebrate 30 years of AMOS.

30 years of people coming together across differences, listening to the stories of their neighbors, and working for a better life for all.

There were stories, hard questions, and powerful testimonies.

At one point, Rev. Kelli found herself on the big stage, leading the whole room in "This Little Light of Mine." 1,000 voices singing together was an unforgettable moment.

And there was a pocket of sunshine in the crowd — Fellowship folks showed up together in yellow, carrying a little more light into the work ahead.

AMOS has shown us what people can accomplish when they organize, listen deeply, and act together. That work has made a real difference across Central Iowa — and there is still much work ahead.

Here’s to the next 30 years of organizing, listening, showing up, and working together for a community where everyone can thrive.

When we think about harvest, we often picture the bounty of the earth — what has grown, ripened, and been gathered.

But there’s another kind of harvest: the wisdom, resilience, relationships, and experiences we’ve gathered along the way.

What have you learned that helps you meet whatever comes next? And how might you remind yourself of the strengths you already carry?

This Sunday, we’ll also celebrate our annual Blessing of the Backpacks — and we mean all the bags, briefcases, purses, diaper bags, laptop bags, and whatever else you carry into the world.

From our shared UU values to the wisdom of those who have walked before us — and the insights of those just beginning their journeys — we carry the lessons of this beloved community with us wherever we go.

Bring your bag, your hopes for the year ahead, and whatever else you’re carrying with you. We’ll bless them — and one another — for the journey.
