Our prayers go out to the people of our sister parish, Dulce Nombre de Maria, who are still struggling to return to normal after being hit by Hurricanes Eta and Iota. Lots of devastation of homes and roads with disruption of power and water, still problematic weeks after the storms have passed. Our former parishioner, who lives among the people took these photos of devastation. You can find more on his photo pages. https://www.flickr.com/photos/johndonaghy/with/50697063542/

Message from Honduras:

A blessed Christmas

Many thanks to St. Thomas Aquinas parishioners for your love and generosity to the parish of Dulce Nombre de María, as well as to me.

I believe that the Dulce Nombre parish, with the leadership of Padre German Navarro, is moving forward in our efforts to be a sign of God’s love in the midst of the poverty, injustice, and insecurity around us. Evangelization and formation are central to our ongoing mission as a parish.

The Parish Council met at the beginning of December for two days of evaluation and planning. It was encouraging to see the hope generated by Padre German’s visits to the villages, the formation of catechists, and the new policy on baptism. This coming year we will be developing teams for formation and spirituality in the four zones of the parish which will help us in the ongoing spiritual formation of catechists, celebrators of the Word, base communities, and more.

We have our work and our challenges but, with God’s grace and your help, we look forward to a new year of continuing blessings.

Peace

John Donaghy

The parishioners of Dulce Nombre de Maria Parish have begun to prepare the church for the celebration of Christmas. The Nativity Scene (called in Spanish "nacimiento" or "belén") appears to be a treasured sign of the season in Honduras, as it is in the U.S., as we can see in the photos taken by John Donaghy in Dulce Nombre.
