Ascension Lutheran Church

Ascension Lutheran Church As the only Ames church affiliated with the AALC, Ascension is evangelical and Lutheran in doctrine. The church relocated to this facility in March 2012.

Ascension was founded on Ascension Sunday, May 2, 1965, in the church building formerly housing Bethesda Lutheran Church. (Bethesda Lutheran built a new church building and relocated in 1964. Ascension began services a year later in the vacated facility.) Beginning in the early 1990’s, Ascension’s leadership identified a need for more space and parking, and more accessible facilities. In the early

2000‘s, Ascension purchased 7 acres of land on Bloomington Road. After years of prayer and planning, including two successful Capital Campaigns, Ascension contracted with Harold Pike Construction and built a new facility on 2400 Bloomington Road. The old church facility was sold to a developer on September 4, 2012.

What a joy-filled morning at Ascension today as we celebrated Jenna's baptism.

In Holy Baptism, God claims us as His own, washes away sin, and welcomes us into His family through Jesus Christ. What a beautiful reminder of His grace and faithfulness.

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

What a joyful Easter morning we celebrated together at Ascension today. From the powerful music and worship as we proclaimed the resurrection, to the fellowship we shared over breakfast, to the laughter and excitement of the Easter egg hunt, it was a beautiful day of celebrating our risen Savior together as a church family.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the morning special through food, preparation, hospitality, and music and to all who came to celebrate with us.

Because He lives, we have hope. Because He lives, we have life. Alleluia!

Today we rejoice as several of our young members received their First Communion. What a blessing to see them come to the Lord’s Table to receive Christ’s body and blood for the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.

We thank God for their growth in faith and pray that they will always treasure this gift Christ freely gives.
