Hey everyone! THIS SATURDAY!
Share & come out to our event:
Midwives of Justice: Birthing Hope When Empires Tremble
Saturday, November 8, 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, Americus Mennonite Fellowship
This workshop invites participants to explore Exodus 1–3 through the lens of vocation, courage, and faithful resistance. Because Anton’s calling is deeply rooted in immigrant solidarity, that experience will be central, while the principles offered will give participants a lens through which to see how ordinary acts of compassion and justice can unsettle systems of oppression. Like Shiphrah and Puah, each of us has a unique calling. Together, we will reflect on what it means to be midwives of justice in our time and place — birthing hope, sustaining vocation, and living courageously in challenging times. Participants will also be invited to discern faithful next steps and explore what it means to act as midwives of justice in their own communities.
About the Facilitator
Anton Flores-Maisonet is the founding and executive director of Casa Alterna, a nonprofit dedicated to welcoming and supporting asylum-seeking families. Since launching Casa Alterna nearly 20 years ago, Anton has created spaces of compassionate hospitality, including El Refugio, a house near Stewart Detention Center that continues to welcome loved ones of detained immigrants, and the Compas at the Gates of ICE program, which supports families navigating ICE check-ins, detention, and deportation threats.
Anton embodies his faith through radical hospitality, living Casa Alterna’s motto: “Love crosses borders.” He has long-standing relationships with Americus Mennonite Fellowship and Koinonia Farm, and draws inspiration from spiritual and prophetic thinkers like James Cone, Dorothy Day, Gustavo Gutiérrez, Clarence Jordan, and Walter Wink. In his work and teaching, he helps others remain rooted in vocation, nurturing life and justice even in the face of systemic oppression. Anton is also the author of the new book, Welcome Friends: Stories of Hope and Hospitality with Immigrants.
