Dear Neighbors,
We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support that the Food of Life/Comida de Vida Pantry has received over the last few weeks. It is our joy to share food with neighbors in our community. Over the last three weeks, we’ve distributed over 20,000 meals-worth of food. That’s just from distributing our 3-day grocery bags to families in Amenia, Dover, Millerton, and nearby Connecticut.
We couldn’t have done it without our steadfast volunteers and are delighted that so many have expressed interest in wanting to volunteer. We also could not continue to distribute that much food without the support of generous donors.
Many have been asking, “What does the pantry need?”
- Cash, check, or online donations are the most helpful for us to continue buying the nutritious food we serve. In the past few weeks there have been many donations of food and grocery items from generous friends. While those contributions are appreciated and welcomed, the high volume of people seeking food makes dollar donations especially important because they make it possible to purchase from the NYS Regional Foodbank and local vendors at discounted rates. And they ensure that we can provide the right balance of protein, vegetables and dairy products to our neighbors.

- We also need volunteers on Friday – as it gets colder, a large team of volunteers is needed to function smoothly so that everyone can have breaks to warm up during the distribution. Please consider coming in around 3:30pm or 4pm to replace the earlier volunteers! To sign up: https://www.stthomasamenia.com/volunteer
- If you speak Spanish, the Amenia site would love to have you from 2pm to 5pm and our Dover site really needs more Spanish-speaking or bilingual volunteers from 6pm to 8pm.
Again, from all of our neighbors, those who come for food and those who come to give it out, thank you for your support. The government shutdown that prompted increased interest in the pantry may be coming to an end but the need for food – the need for community – and our mission to address that need continues.
