Paramount Marriage

Paramount Marriage Encouragement, information, and a little humor for marriage Here's what we know about marriage: Being married is hard. Hurting marriages can be healed.

No relationship or married couple is perfect. But God designed marriage and has incredible intentions for your marriage. That's why we believe every marriage can improve. Good marriages can become great. Strong marriages can be made even stronger. The Marriage Ministry at Paramount is intended to make these hopes a reality by giving couples at every stage in their relationship -- from engaged coup

les to newlyweds to "old married folks" -- the opportunity to fine-tune their marriage using the principles taught in the Bible. We believe the Bible addresses almost every aspect of married life, including love, s*x, communication, intimacy, family relationships, and more.

Sometimes, we want to hold on to being right, not really thinking about the cost. But forgiveness in marriage offers a freedom that pride never could.

You may not agree on everything, but you both must absolutely agree on this: to never give up.

Healthy communication in marriage requires that both spouses are willing to push through disagreements and get to the other side. You need not think exactly the same way, but you must thing together—alongside one another.

Seek agreement on the big important thing and let your differences shine everywhere else!

Men, are you treasuring your wife? She's not just another person in your life. She's a profound blessing from God himself!

Consider all the Bible has to say about wives:

"House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD." (Prov 19:14)

"He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD." (Prov 18:24)

"An excellent wife is the crown of her husband..." (Prov 12:4)

"Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” (Gen 2:18)
.. and so many more.

Men: take a moment and think of 3 things you love about your wife and text/tell her what they are.

Gratefulness disarms discontentment and appreciation leads to healthy adoration. Take time to be “happy in your wife”. Doing so recognizes her as the true gift she is.

There’s profound joy in the mutual and reckless pursuit of each other in marriage.

Marriage requires a fierce tenacity that never gives up and never gives in.

What does this reckless pursuit actually look like in marriage? What enables it within every complex issue and circumstance you will face?

To start, look at Christ’s example. He pursues you without fail. It’s his steady pursuit that drew you to him, and it’s because of his love and grace alone that you’re in a relationship with him.

David writes, “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!” (Psalm 139:7-8). The psalmist is reflecting on God’s limitless pursuit of those he loves. The concept of a pursuing love has immense implications for your marriage.

Pursuit is active, not passive. It means to chase steadily with the goal of capture.

This is why it’s vital to keep dating each other long after you marry. When you work with the expressed intent of capturing your spouse’s heart, you’re in active pursuit. And more importantly, when you’re having a hard time connecting, the pursuit continues.

May you throw out any and all backup plans in your marriage. When you do, you’ll enjoy the intimacy that comes only from pursuing unconditionally and being pursued exactly the same way.

So much is at stake in marriage—probably much more than we realize. Consider the following.

1.) In many ways, how we live in marriage reflects how well we TRULY understand the gospel. When we live out marriage the way God instructs us in his word, we experience what it means to truly love and be loved in spite of our imperfections. When we love each other despite each others' sin, you get a sense of the true cost of unconditional love. It's a small glimpse into how Christ radically loves us.

2.) Marriage is a tool God uses to make us more holy—to sanctify us and make us more like Christ. Marriage is God's idea, not ours. That's why it's about trusting him and his plan over our own temporary feelings or circumstances. A person in a difficult season of marriage (especially a long one) must TRUST God more than he/she trusts themselves.

3.) Marriage is the avenue God chose to bless generations and cause them to flourish. This doesn't mean life will somehow be easier through wealth, etc, but rather, it is through the family unit that God establishes his kingdom here on earth. Think, husband/wife --> kids --> discipleship --> church --> community --> onward. (Just to get you thinking.) One of the best legacies you can leave your kids is an unbroken marriage.

The best promise you can make your spouse is to never, ever stop fighting for them or actively loving them. This is how Christ loves us. And the best foundation to build a strong marriage upon is Christ alone.

If you're reading this and your marriage is broken, take heart! Rest in Christ. Sin breaks things, but Jesus fixes everything. We may not always understand how or when God works, but He always does. That's where trust & faith come in.

May you be filled with hope, peace, and joy as God increases your affections for and trust in Him.
