We've been learning about David on Sunday mornings with the children. So far we've discovered he was the "lowliest" shepherd of all his brothers, chosen by God. David was a musician and songwriter who played for the king; he fought a lot of battles, with one against a giant named Goliath. He had a bff named Jonathan, who was also the son of his enemy and predecessor. He extended kindness to Jonathan's son Mephibosheth, who was diabled, after the men swore to care for each other's families.
What were our take-aways?
That God looks at our HEARTS; that we can fight hard battles with God by our side; that we should keep our promises and that we should care for others because God wants us to, even if the world says we shouldn't.
Nobody is disposable in God's kingdom.
When asked to illustrate something they knew about David, most kids went straight for the gore, lol. David vs. Goliath. But we got one point for the shepherd boy ;)
