Lord, today guide us to cool down our responses to others when we think they have not appreciated us enough… to cool down our reactions to others when we think they have not done something the way we would do it… and to cool down our attitudes toward others when we become aware they have different opinions than we do.

Lord, today we ask for courage to grow in our personal relationships so that we have more empathy for others; for patience to grow in our realization that achieving goals sometimes takes longer than we want it to; and for discipline that will lead to more time in prayer and study so that we increase our steadfastness in our faith journey of drawing closer to you.

Lord, forgive us when we listen to rumors without verifying if there is truth; forgive us when we participate in spreading rumors without verifying if there is truth; and forgive us when delight in the innuendo of a rumor without verifying truth. Today, nudge us to be careful with the words we speak wherever we go and with whomever we interact.

Gracious God you promised us through Jesus Christ we would not be left adrift on our own and so you sent the Holy Spirit who comforts, educates, strengthens and shows all the way to eternal life. Open our lips, loosen our tongues so that we may tell all of your glory through Jesus Christ as we come humbly into worship this Pentecost Day.

Lord, we thank you for all the graduates who worked hard to achieve in their studies so that they may graduate into the next phase of their lives. Today we give thanks that your help and presence in our lives, helps us understand that our entire life is graduating from one phase to another…that our personal growth is never over in this life… and that our educational journey begins the moment we are born and continues on until our ultimate graduation into life eternal with you.

Lord, we ask for the gift of wisdom today to help us make sound judgments by slowly “putting our toes” in before we commit to plans or people without knowing as many of the ramifications we can know; to slowly make judgments on evidence not gossip nor innuendo; and most of all to steep ourselves in your presence with prayer that seeks to do your will not ours.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, around us seems to be so many happenings that cause us sadness, frustration, pain, and anxiety that we often think those events outnumber the good. Today, nudge us to purposely look for one thing that counteracts the negative feelings we so easily let overcome us… whether it be a person who brings a smile to our face or an event that restores our hope or a beautiful part of nature that provides us a sense of calmness.
